SPRING 2022 CLASS UPDATE

Updated: Apr 25, 2021

@LonnPhillips

I've been collecting some intriguing recruiting news for all the people out there checking us out...if this is your first time at our site, great, you just got Odyssized....welcome!

As the 2022 class recruiting trail heats up, official visits are being scheduled and mad-dash races for commitments are now fully underway....

At this point, with Spring football over, one must scan the landscape and make an obvious note: LSU is ahead of everyone in the SEC right now and will soon take the #1 spot in the country if they continue at this pace....so I ask you this:

Could this be the Tigers' greatest ever recruiting class????

It definitely has the makings to be LSU's all time year: the depth of outrageous talent within the state of Louisiana (as well as around the country) is so endless, plus LSU have already dominated the local targets with more to come...and some interesting out of state prospects who could shake up the entire landscape are now in the mix.

2022 is already geauxing historic...and many want in....more news to follow after this batch settles:

-CAPTAIN SHREVE WR/S KENDRICK LAW JR....

is a big target for LSU, the athlete wanted by Offensive Coordinator Jake Peetz for his offensive capabilities, but first recruited by the Tigers' new Defensive Coordinator Daronte Jones.

Jones loves the idea of Law at safety, and so the hilarious quagmire begins:

OFFENSE OR DEFENSE?

Law isn't the first player to have this choice, far from it, but his undisputed track star speed places him in a class above so many other top safeties.

On offense, he reminds me of Kayshon Boutte: electric after the catch, being thrown around, smashed and still able to fight through the blows, stay on his feet and turn on the jets, maintaining complete balance while defying physics on his terms.

In the return game, he's exceedingly dangerous, scoring from 2 kickoffs and 1 punt return. Those may seem like low stats for a great returner, although the young man has to be prevented from taking it to the house on every change of possession!

I feel the Captain Shreve athlete is more of a majestic offensive weapon than a stallion safety, but he's athletic enough to prove me wrong during his senior campaign.

RIGHT NOW: Though Florida State, Alabama and Sarkisian's Texas are in the hunt for the top jack-of-all-trades, I have a sense the Shreveport-native is favoring LSU heavily at this time due to the Tigers loyalty (beating all the other top offers to the punch with the first major SEC offer). Kendrick is also digging the dual recruitment and the abundant options in Baton Rouge (as far as positions he can choose and / or play).

-IMG SAFETY KAMARI WILSON...

was profiled by Geaux247 today, just weeks after LSU Odyssey detailed Daronte Jones' recruitment of the punishing safety.

Because of these Ray Lewis-esque qualities (intensive leadership, memorizing the entire defensive playbook including every position, being a vocal organizer) as well as his wide range of secondary skills, Wilson is a highly sought after safety and a potential member of DBU.

With Wilson and other players of his ilk digging the dual recruitment team of Corey Raymond & Daronte Jones (both secondary coaches enjoying a history together from their time at the Louisiana high school level) one team source told us "those two are already elite together, like old school buddies or something. Together, Raymond & Jones can be the best DB recruiting tandem in the country."

Raymond already holds the title of best defensive backs recruiter in the nation, however adding the NFL knowledge & experience of Daronte Jones is a proverbial cherry on top which could send many a big time secondary recruit LSU's way.

IMG is the perfect proving ground for the Raymond/Jones partnership's potency, as the prep school has always had a pro-style bend to its culture

RIGHT NOW: I believe Wilson will sign for the Tigers, the pull will be too much and the move makes sense.

-CY PARK LB/RB HAROLD PERKINS...

arrived at beautiful Tigers Stadium for the LSU Spring Game this past Saturday and was "impressed by the physicality" he saw on display, telling those with him that LSU made massive improvements over the 2020 season.

Perkins was loving the sideline enthusiasm from Coach Blake Baker and his assistant Alec Osbourne, a fantastic recruiter who originally was the man to grab Raesjon Davis' year long commitment.

The New Orleans-native would've also noticed the increased playing time for LBs Antoine Sampah, Josh White, Jared Small among others, understanding Coach "Blaker" will give him chances to see the field, even as a freshman.

Amassing over 93 tackles his past two seasons, he's been consistent on both sides of the ball, however he exploded to prominence during 2020:

Posting 47 tackles in 10 games, adding 14.5 TFLs, showing his coverage skills with 6 PDs, forcing 3 fumbles while recovering another, Harold also attacked the line of scrimmage by way of 3 sacks, 2 hurries and a blocked field goal...and don't forget, this is a young man who also rushed for 983 yards & 14 touchdowns (receiving 371 yards for 3 TDs) at the same time, proving himself more than capable in most offensive schemes.

Remember....Coach Blake Baker also has dual Texas/Louisiana ties, just like Harold.

RIGHT NOW: There's many suitors, but it seems Harold has his heart set on returning to Louisiana, undoubtedly dreaming of playing a National Championship or Sugar Bowl semifinal at his hometown New Orleans Superdome. The Spring Game would've brought him ever closer to that Boot Reunion.

I reached out to Harold for confirmation but haven't received a response yet.

-TODD BEAMER OT MALIK AGBO...

looks to be heading to LSU, becoming tight with so many in and around the Tigers: from Coach Cregg, his fellow 2022 recruits & even the fanbase...

I'm hearing this from only one source, but it's the only source that matters.

I would bet a lot of money on James Cregg's chances here, especially considering the awesome O-Line establishment he's already installed: 5 Star Will Campbell, legacy Tiger Ben Bordelon, highly rated Bama defector Lucas Taylor....2022 has the makings of an all-star OL class...and by every clue the Washington state-native has left thus far, he wants to be a part of the Herculean OL unit.

RIGHT NOW: I've reached out to Malik for comment. The young stunner has followed my Twitter account but couldn't be reached. He will arrive in Baton Rouge for an official visit and camp on June 12th.

-OCONEE TE JAKE JOHNSON...

committed to the Tigers last week, and he broke his commitment in perfect style with an exclusive LSU Odyssey interview!

But there's more news regarding Johnson:

Jake was on LSU's campus at Tigers Stadium to watch his brother for the second time in two weeks, seeing the spectacle of a Purple & Gold Spring Game and soaking in the atmosphere.

I think we'll be seeing quite a lot of Jake throughout the upcoming LSU season before his anticipated early enrollee arrival in January 2022.

In the meantime, he'll hope to take Oconee High to a third straight title game, this time with revenge on his mind.

"I have been to a bunch of games so I feel comfortable with the facility/stadium and the campus. Just excited that I will be there in January. Just want to keep improving this summer/fall. I know it’s a big jump but I’m pumped up about it. I feel real comfortable with the coaches too."

RIGHT NOW: Jake is excited for Max to return home soon for an extended period.

The two will be throwing together and working out once again.

MORE SOON FOR SUBSCRIBERS!
