Right Tackle

If there's ever going to be a perfect leader for this squad, layered with a mixture of extreme youth or newly minted upperclassmen, then right tackle Austin Deculus is that man.

Misunderstood and typecast as the joking, long blonde-haired gladiator "wearing the rock and roll guy-liner", Deculus will become the only returning starter from the 2019 LSU Tigers' Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line when he takes the field vs University of Texas-San Antonio

Had it not been for an annoying foot injury, Deculus's streak of consecutive starts would be at 27 heading into the 2020 season...instead, it stopped at 22 before the Ole Miss game, the right tackle sadly missing the Arkansas match-up the week after.

Deculus featured during every single snap (81) of the National Championship bloodlust victory over Clemson, demanding satisfaction as he pounded and disintegrated edge-rushers, throwing Skalski to the ground on one occasion, and bashing Isiah Simmons away on a delayed safety blitz on another.

The length of Deculus' Tigers career feels as well-conditioned and as colorful as his Robert Plant-blonde mane...#76 has seemingly been at LSU for a millennium.

He's been through almost every situation an offensive line could experience, from injuries, switching positions, altering protections at the line, National Championship game pressure, SEC Title Game pageantry and hype, The CFP Playoff's ultimate adrenaline rush, as well as the violence, tragedy and sheer exhaustion of beating Alabama in the Game of the Century II, getting shutout by Alabama in 2018...destroying Texas A&M to an embarrassing degree last year or losing 4 quarters and 7 overtimes the previous season...he's seen it all...

Deculus heard all the talking about the offensive line being a disaster heading into the 2019 campaign...everyone on that line, to a man, knew what was continuously repeated in the media, not just nationally, but locally...and it's because they were bad.

In 2018, Joe Burrow never had a chance because of that offensive line....flash forward a few months and Joe Burrow owns the world thanks to the Great Wall of Cregg....

Whatever secret motivational tactics Deculus or James Cregg use to bolster their assembled charges will remain in the firm tradition of the legacy Lloyd Cushenberry, Damien Lewis, Adrian McGee, Shaadiq Charles and Badara Traore left behind....the same traditions James Cregg will carry on.

That means we'll see the blow torch / acid-rain conditioning and cryogenic deprivation tests return, as well as the live gator wrestle resume in full this summer.

PROJECTIONS: Plays every minute of every game like a supernaut warrior.
