LSU PRACTICE / SCRIMMAGE NOTES 4/9

-QB Walker Howard takes all the headlines today with a breathtaking 60 yard TD bomb down the sidelines in stride to WR Kyren Lacy (RJ Willis in coverage).

Just as i pointed out on our recent QB talk appearance on the Mark Rogers Show, Howard delivers strikes in the passing game with a better velocity, trajectory and poise than any other quarterback on roster, challenged closely by the mega talented Garrett Nussmeier as well.

Today, Howard proved once again he has the special arm talent we projected.

He also showcased strong movement in the pocket, escape-ability, nice balance when turning loose towards the sidelines....he looked fluid and in rhythm.

-QB Garrett Nussmeier had some nice throws as well, made a smooth scramble to his left for positive yardage and snapped the defensive line offsides a few times.

-QB Jayden Daniels took off down the sidelines for a nice gallop on one play, proving his open field pace can be special even at half speed.

Daniels isn't doing anything to wow anyone in the passing game, though he threw a few nice out routes for first downs and drove his unit down the field.

JD is such a wild card right now....you can sense his athleticism is pro caliber if developed properly, although can he throw the football? Can he make those tough throws in contested, tight windows?

He's still yet to prove that for me.

-QB Myles Brennan made a few good close throws, but he also threw running backs directly into hits from safeties underneath (something Myles did often in 2020, which created a huge hit opportunity on Kayshon Boutte vs Mississippi State).

His arm is always talked about but he doesn't back it up much, hanging passes up and away from the reach of his receivers....he makes it tough for his receivers.

-SATURDAY STARTING OL:

LT Will Campbell LG Xavier Hill

C Charles Turner RG Miles Frazier RT Cam Wire

-SECOND TEAM OL

LT Will Campbell LG TreMond Shorts C Fitz West Jr RG Kardell Thomas

RT Marcus Dumervil

-As LSU Odyssey reported back a few weeks ago, Jarrick Bernard-Converse was hurt badly during a Saturday practice we were in attendance at, though the injury happened after the media period.

Brian Kelly confirmed today JBC suffered a Jones fracture in his foot, sending him out until summer.

This is why the Tigers are also attempting to sign former senior Ohio State CB Sevyn Banks in the portal, a move we see as highly likely after Banks' Baton Rouge visit & contact with the team.

-RB John Emery appears to be on full throttle, flying through the holes with a nice pace. Sure, the defense aren't fully tackling, but Emery is looking to be on a mission to seal the #1 spot ahead of Noah Cain's May arrival.

-LSU safety Matthew Langlois continues to play with venom out there, racing to the ball, for would-be big hits, showing off a high caliber anticipation. He is definitely one to watch with his speed and tackling in space.

-DB Sage Ryan made a couple elite stops in space or on the outside in coverage, tackling Brian Thomas Jr at one point.

Many ask us about his injury woes, and while he did suffer another muscular issue this Spring, he's fighting it off in order to practice. Sage has only missed two practices thus far.

-WR Jack Bech was held out once again as he recovers from his back injury. He's doing ok and should be back soon.

-WR Kayshon Boutte stalked the sidelines, head stylishly covered in a towel, all of us knowing how badly he wants to get out there.

-Today, our WRs made some uncharacteristic drops, Malik, Jaray and BT ALL dropped easy catches, disgusting WRs Coach Cortez Hankton.

Btw, there's a weird rumor on Tiger Droppings that I was "talking shit about Hankton's hire", when nothing could be further from the truth. First of all, we broke the Hankton to LSU story, second, we wrote continually of his pedigree and why he would be great here before he won a title.

But i love the nickname, S!

-DE B.J Ojulari isn't just rushing the passer in 2022, he's also dropping into coverage, as can be seen from multiple film takes of practice.
