In the wake of LSU's recruiting spree, building the bulk of their class throughout the first week of July in a daily surge of recruitments, including 5 star WR Jalen Brown on Friday, 4 high octane 4 star-rated defensive linemen committing over 3 days, a pair of underrated / promising cornerbacks, even highly-lauded Oconee High LB Whit Weeks joining today, the Tigers' recruiting staff are now geared towards sealing Catholic High 5 star WR Shelton Sampson Jr.
From LSU Odyssey sources, let alone our own discussions with elite recruits, there is palpable enthusiasm and energy around high school recruiting / college football for LSU....and that intense curiosity is centered around how quickly this staff flipped a switch from the loss of Derek Williams & Arch Manning to the arrival of their real targets over an exciting stretch of days, continuing through 'til now....with no end in sight.
This movement has attracted 2023's #1 WR Shelton Sampson Jr, someone who, according to a source close to his family said, "needed to see what their class would be, how things develop" before committing over his other considerable suitors.
Alabama's Pete Golding was seemingly in the lead for a duration, although that lead has evaporated:
First, Sampson's visits & camp attendance were a major plus for his LSU recruitment, receiving one on one film room study time alongside WRs Coach Cortez Hankton, as well as on-field instruction from the former UGA National Champion & lengthy talks in Head Coach Brian Kelly's upstairs office at LSU Football Operations, complete with overlooking balcony;
Second, Sampson Jr is now able to see Kelly's vision taking hold with class pillars such as Mac Markway, Jaxon Howard, record breaking RB Trey Holly, and fellow 5 star WR Jalen Brown firmly committed....as LSU's recruiting dominance continues to churn 24/7 during these dog days of summer.
From what I'm hearing, LSU are beginning to really assert themselves for Sampson Jr's commitment, and that the 5 star WR "will make his decision before Catholic High's season begins", with a rough timeline of this month into August.
"He will commit before camp," the source close to the Sampson family revealed.
It looks like what most analysts, including ourselves, believed could become a saga battle between LSU and Alabama yet again, is turning into something else entirely....an affirmation of the Baton Rouge native's purple & gold destiny.
