SETH SCOTT 2023 LSU LB EXCLUSIVE CONVO

By LONN PHILLIPS SULLIVAN

On Tuesday February 14th 2023, LSU signed Parish Episcopal LB Seth Scott as a preferred walk-on.

Though the signing of a preferred walk on isn't usually considered big news by sports media luminaries, Seth Scott's signing at LSU felt different.

Not only did we see large segments of LSU's fanbase grow excited about signing the versatile Dallas, Texas defender, or the fact Matt House's defense were in dire straits when it came to depth or talent at linebacker: Seth Scott rejected scholarships from SMU, Arizona State and North Texas to walk on as a Tiger....his ultimate dream now becoming reality.

With transfer arrival / Oregon St veteran Omar Speights, 2023 freshmen Whit Weeks & Christian Braithwaite, the retention of Greg Penn III after a transfer scare, plus the addition of Seth Scott, Matt House's linebackers unit appears in far better shape than expected.

I feel like I can elevate LSU by bringing in a hardworking mentality and a winning attitude as we try and reclaim our spots as champions," Scott said in a statement after the commitment went public. "I’ve been dreaming about playing at LSU since I was 5 years old so I’m beyond excited to see that dream come true.”

Leading a Parish Episcopal defense that allowed over 17 points just twice all season in Texas' TAPPS division (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools), Scott is ready to take his talents to Baton Rouge, excited about the possibilities for his future as a Tiger.

We caught up with Seth only two and a half months before his LSU arrival, talking about everything from his favorite music to how Matt House's LSU defense pursued him:

LONN: How did your LSU signing get put together, Seth??

SETH: My high school coach (Coach Navakov) helped me put it together. I knew LSU would be a great fit for me.

LONN: When did LSU start talks with Coach Navakov regarding signing you?

SETH: Right after we won state.

LONN: This was Matt House who made the approach, right?

SETH: Yes!

LONN: How many times was that in a row for Parish Episcopal??

SETH: It was a 4 peat for our team. I played in two, I've only been at Parish Episcopal two years.

LONN: You come from a winning culture, what have you seen from LSU's staff that you've seen from the Parish Panthers' staff, if anything?

SETH: LSU's staff has a lot of intensity and passion about the game and they really care about their kids. It was a great feeling when i found out i had the opportunity to go to LSU.

LONN: Was LSU ever on your mind as a dream school before this happened???

SETH: Since I was 5.

LONN: So this was personal for you, this wasn't just an offer....

SETH: Very personal.

LONN: Where did that love for LSU come from at such a young age?

SETH: I'm not exactly sure, it just happened.

LONN: What was the main reason for you liking LSU as your team?

SETH: The name Death Valley is what got me into liking LSU.

LONN: How are you feeling right now with just under 3 months before you arrive on campus?

SETH: Yeah, I’m definitely missing football right now. A lot to prove and a lot to see down there.

LONN: What are your biggest goals going forward as you arrive at LSU this June???

SETH: Just getting bigger faster and stronger while also trying to see the field.

LONN: What did Coach House think you needed to improve upon most??

SETH: Mostly my size. I was told to make sure i’m big enough to play football at that high of a level.

LONN: Where are you at now, weight-wise?

SETH: Sitting around 215.

LONN: What LB is your favorite and a guy you try to model your game after?

SETH: Fred Warner.

LONN: Why him specifically?

SETH: Fred Warner’s versatility is what attracts me to his game.

LONN: What can you provide LSU in year 1? And, what can LSU provide you that you won't get at any other school?

SETH: Hopefully I can find a way to put my skills to use for them. Being able to play high level football around good people.

LONN: What's your favorite music and artist?

SETH: My favorite is Drake.

LONN: What's your favorite Drake album or song???

SETH: My favorite album is More Life but my favorite song is "Headlines".

LONN: If you weren't playing football, what career would you pursue??

SETH: I would be a cook.

LONN: How much do you cook? What would you cook up for Coach Kelly if he came by for dinner tonight?

SETH: I cook everyday almost and I think i would go Southern fried chicken.

LONN: Who's had the greatest motivating factor on your success as a football player?

SETH: Coach Gulsha has made me the football player I am today.

LONN: How did Coach Gulsha impact your game?

SETH: He made me understand the X’s and O’s of football and made me more of a universal football player. Coach G really taught me how to read my keys and how to know what the offense is doing pre-snap.

LONN: Who's had the biggest impact on your success as a person? Who's been there the most during the toughest times?

SETH: My parents.

LONN: What kind of sacrifices have your parents made to help you get to this point?

SETH: Just constantly supporting me, the long drives, the hours of training, the money....they did it all.

LONN: What would you like to do for them once this dream becomes reality?

SETH: Buy them a house.

LONN: What was the most difficult time for you over the past few years and how did you overcome it?

SETH: I’ve had a lot of moments over the years that have defined me, but I think my most impactful one was the death of my grandmother. It just shows how someone who lived so long...life can still end and that every day on this earth is special.

LONN: How much did your grandmother mean to you?

SETH: She meant everything. She was truly a peaceful old soul.

LONN: What are your favorite memories of her???

SETH: When she would come down stairs early in the morning full of energy.

LONN: She would be proud of you, Seth. Attending a big university, your dream school of LSU. Speaking of which, what will be your major?

SETH: Business and management.

LONN: Seth, thank you so much! I look forward to meeting up with you this summer in Baton Rouge.

SETH: Thank you that means more then you know.
