On February 7th, LSU could sign their fourth 5-star commitment in the past month...and he may just be the biggest missing piece to LSU's 2024 class jigsaw.

Before he makes his announcement official on National Signing Day, one of the most authoritative athletes in America, Timpson High's Terry Bussey is making one last visit to his "final three":

First up, Georgia on 1/26, then another trip to LSU on 1/31, before his remaining stop will be at A&M, the school he's been committed to since the end of September.

Expect LSU to be in a competitive spot here, thanks to a ton of stellar work over the past year by former safeties coach Kerry Cooks; However, setting up shop for Bussey's January 31st visit without a signed and sealed safeties coach would be a major risk, concerning his tight relationship with prior safeties coach Kerry Cooks and possibly even tighter bond with both UGA secondary assistants Travaris Robinson & Donte Williams.....a formidable pairing both on the field or the trail.

It would be worrying if, by January 31st, LSU still didn't have a clear picture of their DB staff.

While Bussey projects to be a safety at the collegiate level, On3's #1 ranked 2024 athlete in the country plays quarterback & safety for Timpson, recording back to back seasons with over 2,000 yards on the ground as well as through the air, culminating in this season's All-American Bowl invite & Mr. Texas Football honors.

In 2023, Bussey passed for 2,177 yards and 26 TDs as he earned 2,596 yards as a rusher and 46 rushing TDs (averaging a sickening 14.1 yards per carry), while on defense, Terry wrapped up 115 tackles and caught 5 INTs, returning 4 into the end zone.

So....where does LSU stand heading into the final weeks?

Right now (Tuesday, 1/16 at 1pm central), though we've told you the names and candidates on our recent subscriber pieces, Brian Kelly doesn't have a safeties coach on staff yet...or even a DBs coach for that matter.

PREDICTION

If the visit happened today, I'd put LSU at 2nd place behind Georgia.....although, I believe by the time January 31st rolls around, LSU will be in a spot fit for another 5 star finish.

Depending on who the Tigers sign as their safeties coach, his prior relationship with the 5 star jack-of-all-trades, & his pedigree in comparison to UGA's Robinson & Williams, LSU's highly favorable overall staff recruitment needs to be topped off by the signing of a big time safeties coach to seal the deal....

In the end, I believe Bussey heads to Georgia....as much as I want to scream from the mountaintops "HE'S GONNA BE A TIGER!!!", I'm just not hearing, feeling, seeing or sensing that vibe from Bussey (a vibe that was palpable when Cooks was still on staff), or his family & coaches.

Right now, it's very hard to bet against LSU, but I see him headed for UGA despite the Tigers' elite attempts to reel him in.

Still, a lot can change between now and then, and if it does, we'll be revising this prediction with a lot of excitement.
