FALL CAMP DAY II: UPDATE-ATHONNATHON

FIRST THINGS FIRST...

-Tigers RB John Emery didn't make the second practice today.

- LSU's nickel CB Cordale Flott was absent from today's practice; we will update right here when we know why.

- Antoine Sampah, second year LB out of Virginia was also absent; I have reached out to see if everything is okay.

- DE Ali Gaye, DE Landon Jackson, DL Glen Logan, WR Deion Smith, WR Devonta Lee, S Derrick Davis Jr (both #6's), OL Charles Turner RB Josh Williams and CB Raydarious Jones were all wearing gold non-contact jerseys, though their movement wasn't too limited and is more out of caution.

-LSU's first string OL has been the very reliable & versatile Cam Wire taking over at left tackle, future high NFL Draft pick Ed Ingram at LG, Liam Shanahan at center, Chasen Hines retaining his place at RG due to some strong showings in the weight room, and a badass who is about to play the most games of any Tiger in LSU history this season, Sir Austin Deculus at right tackle.

Coach Brad Davis' 2nd string OL unit thus far has been: LT Garrett Dellinger LG Marlon Martinez C Xavier Hill RG Anthony Bradford RT Marcus Dumervil. Then, Brad Davis experimented with a few switcharoos, swapping Bradford out to tackle and Dellinger to guard, looking like this: LT Anthony Bradford LG Xavier Hill, C Martinez, RG Dellinger & RT Dumervil.

Very intriguing.

-Once again, Jack Bech continues to explode, exciting the coaches by the rep. At one point, the coaches seemed to get going every time he touched the football. They simply want to see more and more of this unbelievable talent from Lafayette, and so do LSU Tiger fans!!!

Bech is geauxing to be unreal, and if you're an LSU Odyssey reader or subscriber, you understand just how early we've been on the Bech Bandwagon.

Bech is dominant out there, running routes with precision, ripping the ball out of the air with ease and focus, yet the thing that surprises Jake Peetz and TEs Coach Derek Shay the most?

How fast Jack is after the catch...exactly what we've been trying to tell people all along about this incredible cat out of St Thomas More.

There was one play where Max's pass was too far wide and Jack couldn't reel it in with one outstretched hand.....a loud, pissed off growl from Bech followed.

He thinks he can catch anything, and I love it because....well....Jack is right.

NEW:

-#30 TE Jack Mashburn impressed out there once again, making a great grab after two consecutive drops by Bech then Taylor.

He's definitely giving Peetz another solid option, as we predicted earlier.

NEW:

-Our D-Line getting in work:

Notice both Gaye and Logan in gold, also Maason Smith's big #0, Joseph Evans was violently smashing the shit out of the dummies...this illustrious and deep crew are an army of Bama burial artists.

NEW:

-Wearing #15, Safety/Nickel/Returner Sage Ryan is a freak! Already hauling in an INT on his first day at an LSU fall practice.....my word... this young man (who once called me "Mr. Lonn" the week before his Halloween commitment) is following in the path of Derek Stingley Jr and Eli Ricks by tearing it up as a freshman.

To quote former LSU hero Joe Brady, "Get your popcorn ready."

Sage Ryan already has 1 INT after 2 days in Fall Camp.

-WR Trey Palmer has begun to show promise after two strong showings. I neglected to tell everyone how solid he looked after ay I simply because I wanted to see this effort on consecutive, tough days.

Trey The Kid did just that, hauling in everything which came his way and showing WRs Coach Mickey Joseph exactly what he wanted to see coming into Fall Camp. Right now, he's putting in the work to be among LSU's starting 4-5 WRs.

-Due to John Emery's absence, RB Ty Davis-Price asserted himself upon the RB competition with another confident display. We also were treated to Kevin Faulk & Jake Peetz's coaching collaboration, ironing out the backfield passing game together.

-While covering fellow DBs, All-American CB Eli Ricks got his hand on a few passes, showing his unreal anticipation. We also had great looks at the size of Stingley & CB Dwight McGlothern, the pair appearing ripped and buff.

Eli Ricks

Our CBs tackled well in 2020, stopping many explosive plays down the field: this year, they're appearing even mightier.

Dwight McGlothern

-Freshman S Matthew Langlois flew to the ball during his drills, receiving a lot of attention from Safeties Coach and Defensive Coordinator Daronte Jones.

Baton Rouge media titan Jordy Culotta posted footage showing Langlois and Jones engaged in verbal judo.

Langlois was showcasing that optimal speed throughout the Safety group's side to side training.

-LBs Coach Blake Baker and OL Boss Brad Davis mirror each other's frustrations, with Davis' booming voice becoming the headline of Day I. On Saturday, Baker was left frustrated at times with some members of his linebacker room.

Much like the offensive line, LSU's linebackers have a few trusted guys who are still unproven at their core....and then a whole lotta guys, with 6 NEW walk on additions as we went over on Thursday.

-Also, WR Jack Rilling pulled off a stunning one handed grab, getting the staff going! Photo by Josh Auzenne:
