LSU's 2022 RECRUITING: NEWS & TWO PREDICTIONS FOR SOME KEY TARGETS, INCLUDING EMERY JONES

@LonnPhillips

Below is a list of players who are firmly on the Tigers' 2022 recruiting watch list, and though some of the names may be unfamiliar to you right now, you'll remember this article when you're watching most (if not all) of these young men torching opponents this fall.

We've covered some of these players in a myriad of ways, but we will begin to expand our coverage:

KEY TARGETS:

EMERY JONES

OT (CATHOLIC HIGH)

Winning a state championship at Baton Rouge's Catholic High last year, Emery Jones is the biggest remaining offensive line priority for the Tigers.....a must-get Louisiana titan from the same school as Warrick Dunn, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Kurt Ainsworth, Athletic Director Scott Woodward, and legendary punter Donnie Jones....there's a river that runs through Catholic High....and its waters have always ran purple & gold.

In fact....let me state something that may be unpopular, but I feel is true:

LSU Odyssey feel Emery Jones not only edges fellow OT Will Campbell as the #1 OL out of Louisiana, I must say for my own opinion Emery Jones is the #1 OT in America, as well.

I'm hearing Emery Jones' commitment will be headed LSU's way, no matter how long it takes, but his decision could be delayed if he sets up more visits.....we're hearing Jones won't be visiting LSU right now, as the Tigers are giving out of state kids a shot at seeing the campus first, however his official visit at LSU is mostly ironed out with the purple & gold "red" carpet ready to be unfurled.

While Florida State have stayed in the hunt, pushing the Tigers' James Cregg farther than he thought, LSU's Joe Moore Award-winning OL coach has made sure Emery understands just how much he's valued.

If you thought Cregg displayed incredible commitment in signing 2021 & 2020 OL Garrett Dellinger or Anthony Bradford out of Michigan, snagging Damien Lewis from the JUCO ranks & turning him into an NFL starter, then just wait for Cregg's pursuit of Emery Jones to reach its ultimate climax:

James Cregg won't stop for anything.

Without a doubt, Cregg has to be called LSU's 2022 coaching staff MVP thus far, solidifying the establishment of LSU's class by gaining the huge commitments of 5 star Will Campbell, legacy Tiger Bo Bordelon and highly recruited Bama defector Lucas Taylor.

UPDATE: LSU ODYSSEY Breaks more news:

Emery Jones tells Lonn Phillips Sullivan that he will be visiting LSU's campus unofficially on June 1st.

KAMARI WILSON

S/DB (IMG)

Wilson is still one of the top 5 priorities left for the 2022 class, a swaggering, high football IQ "leader machine" among the secondary at IMG.....and he could be following in Eli Ricks' footsteps (as yet another IMG DB going to LSU) soon enough.

Despite all the UGA talk from Steve Wiltfong of Geaux247, Wilson has become too tight with DBU Miyagi Corey Raymond and Defensive Coordinator Daronte Jones, just as we detailed back a month ago.

Still, Kamari has a decision to make....although I feel Kamari is a Tiger, the young man has gone silent for the past little bit.

Grabbing 20 solo stops from 21 overall tackles, Wilson is another fundamentally strong Tiger on the outside, but his playmaking is beginning to reach another level.

With 2 interceptions and 4 passes defended from such a small amount of targets his way at safety, Wilson impacted the game in a variety of ways, returning one interception for a touchdown.

JIHAAD CAMPBELL

DE/LB (IMG)

IMG's edge rushing phenom went off during 2020 in 6 games as a prototypical defensive end...and it's just the beginning:

Standing at 6'4 and 220 pounds, Jihaad posted 45 total tackles (44 SOLO!!), 3 games of 9+ solo stops and 7 sacks, devouring the cream of Florida's prep school crop.

In fact, his coverage skills have become so reliable, his coaches at IMG are practicing him at linebacker for his senior year, hoping he can make the crucial adjustment to a hybrid role....a job he's more than ready to master.

Underlining his versatility, Campbell also plays receiver, hauling in 2 TD catches and a pair of 70-80 yard performances out wide.

Profile Comparison?

LSU 1st Round pick and 2019 National Champion K'lavon Chaisson.

KENDRICK LAW

ATH (CAPTAIN SHREVE)

You can book this kid as an LSU Tiger....

I can't see any other program offering Law this kind of versatile design, chance for reps or NFL pedigree all in one conveniently located package...and OC Jake Peetz, DC Daronte Jones, DBs Coach Corey Raymond and especially offensive analyst / recruiting assistant Collin D'Angelo have all done a great job selling it.

When you're pursuing a player who possesses such untouchable capabilities, all while you have one of the top 3 quarterback rooms in the country (which will rise to #1 beginning in 2022), a defense beginning to gel under the energetic brilliance of Daronte Jones....a stacked DBU room and a historic WR group....you do what it takes to get the young man over the line and you definitely try every combination of recruiter.

Either way, the response has been strong for LSU.

Check out our in depth profiles on Kendrick Law (an intro to Law & 2nd profile):

Is he the next Kayshon Boutte????

Or just the first Kendrick Law?????

CHRIS GRAVES

CB/ATH (BISHOP VEROT CATHOLIC)

An elite player who must be recognized....

A young man who Corey Raymond must talk to daily...

A young CB/WR who Coach Orgeron has felt the need to pursue at all costs....and yet he only has 1 interception to his name....

What does it all mean???

KEEP AN EYE ON:

KEON SABB

S (IMG)

Another big time 5 star DB out of IMG and a teammate of both Wilson & Campbell's, Sabb has been in major demand, picking up offers from nearly every Power 5 powerhouse you can think of....with more (those who are sadly late to the party) arriving by the day.

Over two years at Glassboro High (before moving to IMG), Sabb elevated to the 5 star rating after picking off 11 passes, smashing 77 tackles, defending 7 more passes, as well as adding savage physicality (a QB hurry & forced fumble).

While those numbers made Sabb a star, his playmaking is the real reason IMG came calling and why LSU is all over the IMG star:

As a freshman at Glassboro, Sabb took 19 kickoffs for 534 kickoff return yards, recording 2 return touchdowns; as a sophomore, Sabb took it to another level on the offensive side of the ball, producing 6 receiving touchdowns at wide receiver and finishing with just under 1,500 all purpose yards.

Sabb is a player you haven't heard many talk about, and for such a highly ranked "Devastation Station" possessing overwhelming pace and boundless athleticism, these analysts better start putting some respect on this young man's name.

Also attracting the DBU team of Corey Raymond & Daronte Jones?

Sabb is learning from the best DB coaches you can find at the high school level, excelling under defensive coordinator Jeff Pond.
