1. TY DAVIS PRICE (RB)
21 plays
88 total yards
19 Rushes
72 Rushing Yards
2 Catches (both vs Vanderbilt)
16 Yards
(4.2 Yards Per Possession)
Just like John Emery, Ty Davis-Price is playing with a purpose, running every play not only in tribute to Remy Hidalgo, but for his parents, Stacie and Tyquincy, both fallen ill with 2020's resident evil.
Ty will be playing with a heavy heart and an intensity.... we back him fully as his family goes through this current trial...100%...Ty Davis-Price is the real deal.
Similarly to Emery again, TDP possesses the multi-dimensional running back skills to showcase his talents vs Missouri: the sophomore already has 6 TDs on his resume and now 88 yards from 21 total plays (featuring some strong running and a few great catches in the screen game...all topped off by an orgasmic spin move on a Vandy edge rusher.
Though he's been effective through 2 games, Davis-Price is about to burst his profile wide open, hopefully bringing comfort to his ailing family in the process.
Much Love Ty!
2. B.J OJULARI (DE)
-7 QB Hurries
(1 forced INT, 2 Forced Incompletions)
-4 QB Hits
-4 tackles (2 Solo)
-1 TFL
The Tigers' freakish D-line master is in a righteous mood ahead of the Missouri duel, showing off some unparalleled defensive line alchemy vs Vandy (watch his physics defying pass rush during the Commodores' only TD...you won't believe your eyes).
He spoke with me online this week about the upcoming game and how B.J felt vs Vandy:
"That was a great game for the D-line unit. It felt great being out there and having an impact on the game. We have the same mentality for Mizzou this week."
Ojulari hasn't always been on the field, but when he's appeared, B.J is extremely influential, Pro Football Focus College rating him as the #1 ranked true freshman from Week 1 vs Mississippi State, a game where he was more or less statistically anonymous...that's how key his pass rushes have been for LSU's defense.
Beyond the ratings, he's dished in the stat columns, pulling in pressures, hits, forcing interceptions and incompletions and smashing quarterbacks...only a holding penalty away from a sack on more than a few occasions.
We feel he deserves a start opposite Gaye, just to see how these two freshmen react together. Andre Anthony was one of LSU's best D-linemen vs Vandy and while #3 could use all the reps possible to strut his stuff, Ojulari has proven to be sly, agile and impossible to isolate off the edge, providing each end with a dominant mismatch.
3. GLEN LOGAN (DT)
First Appearance
#97 makes his prodigal son return vs Missou, his first action since January 13th when LSU hoisted the National Championship trophy. Much has changed since, although one thing remains clear:
For LSU to repeat, veterans like Logan, Farrell, Anthony and Moore are extremely vital to the growth and chemistry of our defensive line.
Supplying more than elder statesmen leadership, Logan, Farrell and Anthony are also among Orgeron / Johnson's most combative players within the trenches....and the manner in which they wear down guards or centers will prove exceedingly valuable as October turns to November.
4. JONTRE KIRKLIN (WR)
4 CATCHES (4 TARGETS)
77 YARDS
2 TDs
(19.3 YARDS PER CATCH)
Will he seize this moment? Will Jontre follow his 2 TD statement performance with another consistent outing, aiming for the #2 WR spot he always wanted but never thought he could attain (since Chase, Marshall, Jefferson were in his way)???
Why the hell not?
Choo Choo can definitely make the #2 spot his own: his first TD was straight from the Kirklin playbook, we knew he had that kind of 5 star explosion....yet his 2nd TD on the flea flicker, catching over a defender's head and outstretched arms, tapping two feet in bounds (utilizing remarkable skills Kirklin hadn't been able to show off until 2020) displayed the evolution of Jontre beautifully.
More than any other receiver, Choo Choo deserves a start vs Missouri to showcase his consistency....he now has more yards in 1 1/2 games than he grabbed the entire previous 3 seasons at LSU...Kirklin is rising fast and he's learned from watching the best...but now he's done emulating...he's setting his own path:
If I could describe Jontre Kirklin to NFL scouts, I'd say this to those nocturnal cheesefaces: Kirklin possesses NFL speed, professional toughness, the highest possible character...unselfish...a champion....a winner...and a grade A human being.
5. LIAM SHANAHAN (C)
-0 Sacks Allowed Week 2
-Forced Back into Myles (8x total....only 3x vs Vanderbilt)
Carefully watch how Liam Shanahan organizes the O-line vs Missouri. Is he in control? Is Missouri threatening? Is there confusion at the line? Are there protection issues Shanahan fails to forecast? Are his snaps crisp and automatic? Is Liam getting pushed back into the pocket?
More than backups or replacements, all eyes must be on out starting center and how he handles the new faces along the line, especially whoever replaces Ed Ingram at Shanhan's left hip...how Liam geauxs, Myles will geaux...but both must help each other out and maximize each other's talents....if they can hit top shelf (i.e Joe and Lloyd 2019), LSU will be one of the top four teams playing in Miami this December & January.
All systems GEAUX. Full throttle.
