One of the top DBs in the portal, former Houston safety AJ Haulcy remains high on the list for Miami, Ole Miss, and LSU, all vying for the young man's services.
While many were at first tipping Miami to be his eventual landing spot, due to his former DBs coach at Houston, Zac Etheridge, moving to Miami, as well as the Hurricanes' enormous NIL cache, and lifestyle attractions.....but in the last 36 hours, Austin Thomas and Blake Baker have not only visited Haulcy in Houston, they've discussed terms with his agency formally, and have ascended above Ole Miss in this race...now making it a true neck and neck vs Miami.
It's obvious Haulcy would greatly improve LSU's safety room, a unit that possesses some strong talents and a couple solid veterans, but the overall proven on field reps is low for Jake Olsen's group, the depth is bone thin, and the position still remains one of concern for most LSU fans.
It's likely last season, LSU would've never been in the fight for Haulcy, maybe only for AJ to rack up his other offers. But since Austin Thomas returned to LSU and grabbed control over the NIL and roster management of Brian Kelly's program, the Tigers aren't used as NIL bait anymore, the Tigers don't get taken for a harsh public lesson in latter-day NIL recruiting prowess....now, LSU are able to offer the best of both worlds: the old school vision of team goals, making the max money at the NFL, and longevity, while also able to offer NFL super development, next level branding, as well as supplying resources you'll only find in the top 3-5 college football programs in America.
Haulcy is now weighing those options, and LSU isn't just a player in the thought process, they're as much of a contender as Miami is, with the Hurricanes taking a slim, marginal "on paper" lead due to Haulcy's relationship with Miami DBs Coach Etheridge....but that's it.....
LSU are in the hunt...don't be surprised if you hear an announcement very soon🥰....
UPDATE:

Haulcy visited Miami yesterday, receiving a police escort through all that nasty Miami traffic. He had dinner with Rick Ross, as well, rolling out the star power at a maximum for the safety. Mario Cristobal's staff are desperate for DBs, we know this, and they're showing they'll throw down anything and anyone to get damn near anybody....a strategy which hasn't quite translated to on field success just yet, however pulling in a few elite defensive players like Haulcy could really impact things...just like we've said Haulcy would likely be LSU's most talented safety if he were to become a Tiger.

It is interesting to note: LSU visited Haulcy in Houston, while the safety took a trip to Miami over visiting Baton Rouge, at least at this juncture...and with a decision imminent, Blake Baker and Austin Thomas will hope they can persuade Haulcy to hold off until he takes a vacation to Baton Rouge and witnesses LSU for himself....
