According to a variety of LSUOdyssey sources, Head Coach Brian Kelly has zeroed in on his defensive coordinator, now former Mizzou DC Blake Baker, a name familiar to Tiger fans as the program's 2021 linebackers coach.
Baker led Missouri to a major improvement defensively upon his hiring, finishing among the top 35 ranked defensive units in both seasons, holding then-#1 ranked UGA to 26 points and continously improving under his coaching.
Baker's short time at LSU was also fruitful, as his recruiting dedication planted the seeds for Harold Perkins' signing and his on-field development and charismatic personality helped Damone Clark transform into a Butkus-nominated NFL linebacker.
The Houston native was let go after one season with the Tigers during the Orgeron-Kelly transition.
Baker is the right choice, as his down to earth good vibes, jolt of confidence, proven knack for building up & maximizing his players is exactly what this wounded yet incredibly talented defensive roster need more than anything.
We'll see who Kelly & Baker hire to fill out the rest of LSU's defensive staff for the 2024 season.
