In news first reported by Ed Daniels of WGNO Sports in New Orleans, Head Coach Brian Kelly emergency hired Defensive Line Guru Pete Jenkins, an 82 year old master with over 22 seasons in the SEC, including stints at LSU under Nick Saban and Ed Orgeron (2000-01 & 2016-17) as well as a decade long stint at LSU as defensive line coach, assistant head coach, as well as defensive coordinator in every season of the 80s.
Stops also included Mississippi State (1991-1995), Auburn (1996-1998), USC (2013) and a three year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles (2007-2009).
LSU only have 9 total sacks on the year, with a DL containing future pros or top talents such as Mekhi Wingo, Maason Smith, Jordan Jefferson, Dashawn Womack, Bradyn Swinson, Saivion Jones, Quency Wiggins, Paris Shand etc.
Jenkins had a main role in developing and recruiting elite DL talents over his storied career:
LSU's 2nd all time sack leader Ron Sancho played for Jenkins, (LSU's single season sack leader) Arden Key had his greatest season under Jenkins, while linebackers Rydell Melancon and Michael Brooks set LSU records for career sacks and single season sacks due to his defensive line setups.
5 of LSU's top 10 single season tackling performances also arrived during Jenkins' prior tenures as either defensive coordinator or DL Coach.

Nothing against Pete. He has a great history, but this does smack of desperation with the current staff.
