On Monday morning, LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly said QB Garrett Nussmeier "is a go" for LSU's showdown vs South Carolina this Saturday.
It is a new update in the neverending Nussmeier Injury Saga, which now seems to bury any clamoring for backup QB Michael Van Buren, with Kelly being firm about who is his #1 signal caller.
“He is feeling better and better, we didn’t do a lot with him last week. We wanted it to be a recovery week for him. We cut him down from the throwing. We get a bonus day (on Monday) with the practice day, and from talking to him, he is feeling good and ready to go..."
“Nuss was involved in practice (last week). He did essentially all the mental work for the days we had on the field...”
“Our expectation, after talking to him,” Kelly said, “is he feels good, and he’s ready to go.”
Coach Kelly also gave other injury updates, saying offensive line right tackle Weston Davis "is a go", star running back Caden Durham "is a go", Aaron Anderson was "probable" despite sporting 3 different points of injury (hip, toe and knee), while offensive line guard Paul Mubenga is "questionable" with a high ankle sprain.
Through the first 5 games of 2024, LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier threw 15 TDs and 4 INTs.
Through the first 5 games of 2025, Nuss has 7 TDs and 3 INTs.
He has completed a SEC High 115 passes from a conference topping 177 attempts.
Nuss is also averaging nearly 100 yards fewer per game in comparison to 2024.
