-Derrick Davis Jr played a little running back today, showing he can play both at the collegiate level, although Coach O believes he will want to stay at safety.

-They ran the same two defensive sets all week, drilling in the "basic and blitzing sets" according to Orgeron, who of course wasn't giving anymore details.

-"I don't think we've been in great condition...we're not in great football shape like we wanna be...gotta be in the best condition possible..."

-Todd Harris will have plenty of responsibility this season at the safety position and the coaches are relying on him to guide the young Tigers (

-Coach O calls Navonteque "Bugg" Strong "the best junior college LB in my opinion..."

saying he "he's a tough hitter, a hard nosed football player!" With grand excitement.

-Coach O discussed Mike Jones Jr by name finally, saying he was "gonna come in summer"

-As LSU Odyssey was reporting first, Jay Ward will be moving to safety frequently, with Orgeron outlining a piece of the Tigers' 2021 secondary:

"Cordale as our nickel, Jay Ward would be one of the safeties and Eli would be one of the corners...that combination could happen."

-"Ya know, Daronte was like the 4th or 5th choice, but so was I, who cares, he's here. He's doing a tremendous job!" - Coach Orgeron on DC Daronte Jones

-Coach Orgeron "trusts" his staff, but shows more energy and intensive accountability than ever before. When the conference ended, Coach O went "that's it?" relieved at the lack of sabotage or drama for once and off he rode into the purple & gold evening sunset, happy after a long day's practice....oh but no no no....his work is just beginning.

COACH O AFTER DAY 4 OF PRACTICE:

"Hey just finished Day 4, we stayed on First down installation all week, we took our time...Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday were dedicated to first down. Today we put in 3rd down for the first time....wanted to keep it simple on both sides of the football.

I thought our coaches did a tremendous job. I wanted to challenge the defensive line to get a good four man rush, challenge the offensive line to protect and win their one on ones.

I think our offensive line did a tremendous job today of the first period of a team-pass. The second period of team-pass, the defensive line started doing some stunts, did some good things. Our quarterbacks scrambled very well, did a good job.

It was a very physical practice, an outstanding attitude of our football team. We have some older guys obviously that've been around coming back and leading our football team.

Our coaches seem to be doing a tremendous job with energy, things seem to be flowing very good right now."

COACH O ABOUT "NEXT MAN UP MENTALITY" IN SCRIMMAGE:

"Very close, next man up, unselfish...We was in a team-run scrimmage and Tyrion Davis (Price) went out in the beginning of practice, John was in a gold shirt so he couldn't scrimmage, Josh Wiliams got hurt, went down to one running back he had 39 carries, he needed a break.

I decided we don't have enough running backs, we had four plays left for the team to run, I said 'we need to put somebody in there'....and the wide receivers Jontre Kirklin, Koy Moore, Trey Palmer...they all went in there, we ran the toss...they did it pretty well (chuckles) and I stopped the team and said 'that's a teachable moment...hey, we're on the football field, we gotta go, next man up, you never can tell when your time is gonna come but it showed me a lot of unselfishness'...I think our team's more together this year. I think our coaching staff's together, we have some very talented quarterbacks...all four of them are doing very well right now. Uh, on the offensive side, we're doing very well on offensive line, our receivers are catching the ball, we just gotta find some running backs. They're hurt right now, so we don't have an identity right there but I know we're gonna get it though."

ON TY DAVIS-PRICE'S INJURY:

"You know Ty just got a regular little injury that's all, nothin', just couldn't practice."
