Coach O talked to WWL AM870 about the 2021 Tigers and he had a lot to reveal, especially about the freshmen, Eli Ricks and way more:
WHO IMPRESSES COACH O MOST SO FAR:
"The guy I'm really impressed with is from Terebonne High School by the name of Maason Smith... wooo, golly....I wasn't around here with Tyson Jackson Or Michael Brockers, but people around here are sayin he's reminding them of them already. And you know hey, young man from Florida, Bryce Langston, watch out...he may be the best defensive lineman I've recruited since I've been here."

On MIKE JONES JR:
"I'm feeling good about the guys we're bringing in. I feel good about the graduate transfer from Clemson that's coming in, I'm excited about him. We've done great with graduate transfers here."
On SAFETIES IN THE TRANSFER PORTAL / FRESHMEN:
"We gotta find some safeties, we gotta find some dominant safeties. But we recruited two young dominant safeties, Derrick Davis is here already, young man from Pittsburgh...excellent player. Sage Ryan, who's the #1 safety in the country."
On CORNERBACKS:
Ya know, if you get Eli Ricks healthy and Derek Stingley..they are the two #1 cornerbacks in the country, so I'm excited for what's goin' on."
On the 2021 TIGERS:
I just gotta get them to play together, that's my job...I'm excited about coaching this team more than any other team I've ever coached.
On using HYBRID SAFETY / LBs:
Well you look at a safety that's better closer to the ball...we look at a safety that's better in the post, but you look like Derrick Davis: he's that guy. Derrick Davis can start at tailback here...I'm not gonna say starting tailback, he'll be one of our top tailbacks here, he's a great athlete, but you gotta use those guys especially with the RPOs. Bobby, if you can't cover a slot here in this league, you're gonna get burnt. As you know, you play Cover 4, you play Cover 2, you cannot let that slot have a free release at that safety, you're dead...and you gotta cover now. See, we gotta take away the RPOs, the run-pass, they gotta pre-snap read, they gotta post-snap read, it's very tough...it's like the triple option. So, those hybrids enable you to play on the RPOs and on the slot.
