DJ CHESTER

2024 STATS

13 STARTING APPEARANCES

925 SNAPS

24 PRESSURES ALLOWED

3 SACKS

Able to hold off transfer center Braelin Moore's initial challenge for his starting spot, LSU red shirt sophomore O-lineman DJ Chester swiped away all doubters who believed Moore would walk in and assume control, shook off & learned from a trying first year as a starter in 2024 (as a red shirt freshman no less), and maintained his 1st team pinnacle role throughout all of Spring.

Whether that theme of perseverance continues into fall camp or is trounced down by Moore moving to center, while Chester switches to guard, the red shirt sophomore has still proven a remarkable point:

He's durable, and a lot better than his worst detractors could conceive of....showing up strong in 1 v 1 reps against top DTs Ahmad Breaux, Dominick McKinley, Sydir Mitchell, and Shone Washington, while picking up the combo blocking drills with newfound command.

Still raw, still making a few blocking errors, and yet to be tested enough for his coaches' liking, incapable of knowing right now if he's ready for another go-round at the helm, Chester has a long way to go if he wants to secure his starting center job for 2025, but credit is absolutely due for the hard work, dedication and patience he's shown this winter and all through Spring....all as nasty criticism (that went from constructive to personal attacks) reigned supreme online.

At this juncture, I'm thinking there's no way Chester won't at least be involved in the starting five; Whether at center or guard, the Georgia-born O-lineman continues to put his experience & bulldozing physicality to good use.

So far, Chester hasn't just saved his starting job, he's changed the narrative....

I agree. Our fans are sometimes unrealistic. We should all remember Lloyd Cushenberry. After his first year there was severe roasting of him. We all know he became a key player for us in our championship run. I’m not sure Chester can accomplish that, but he may prove many wrong.
