Hailing from IMG Academy by way of Mater Dei, the California freshman phenom (and #1 Ranked CB of the 2020 class) just finished a 3 interception senior season while battling a shoulder injury, finding himself ranked as the 14th overall athlete in the country and the #1 overall corner....and he's now ready for his debut season wearing purple and gold.

Now fully recovered from the off season labrum surgery, Eli Ricks could very well take over Kristian Fulton's starting CB spot opposite Stingley:

Not only did Eli start on the left for the most part, he's the complete package as a DB...

Christmas is coming early this year, LSU fans:

As a sophomore and junior at Mater Dei High School in California, Eli Ricks won back to back titles and grabbed 9 interceptions, returning 6 for touchdowns! Pulling off remarkable feats of otherworldly hysteria, Ricks would leap up and snatch the ball from unsuspecting WRs' still stuck in their imagination's haunted expectations.

He showed a remarkable sense for the end zone, catching 3 interceptions deep in his own red zone and returning each for a TD, stutter-stepping before turning on the juice, evaporating the offense's desperate grasp as he veered to the right and shot off into the atmosphere.

One night at Mater Dei, Eli decided to geaux off, picking off a hat trick of interceptions...returning all three to the house!

The madcap performance was an unprecedented, unbelievable moment which caught the eye of every recruiter in the country.... if they weren't already watching him.

Eli plays with a constant competitive edge, an uncompromising athletic flair and a surprisingly seismic, accurate tackling ability on the left flank for a cornerback.

He spent his senior year at IMG Academy in Florida, moving to the Southeast so he could graduate a semester earlier, making him eligible for spring practices, according to his mother Shauna, who's exclusive interview with us is below:

At IMG, Ricks registered 3 more INTs, catching the eye of every powerhouse on the map as he grew as an all-around player during his senior season, becoming more positionally aware; those 3 INTs are lower than his previous season due to an outrageous lack of targets...simply put, quarterbacks already knew who he was and they weren't throwing his way if their lives depended on it.

Though Ricks finds himself amongst a high octane class at DBU, his length, ranginess, considerable knowledge and ability to cover any route positions Ricks to become the second consecutive freshman to start at corner for LSU on opening day at Death Valley....better still, Ricks has a knack for using the receiver's momentum or burst against them, countering with the perfect jam or simply placing his body in the way of their build-up, creating an obvious hesitation for the receiver from the outset.

Will he become only the 7th freshman ever to start on opening day for LSU's defense?

From intensive film study, the only problem I can sense rearing its ugly head is...??

Ricks needs to calm down on the taunting and the post-play antics, especially when close SEC contests could be decided by a few penalties: Orgeron will not tolerate that, as much as I respect the fire (this is coming from someone who was worse than Eli at post-play antics when I played...I've seen both sides...someone as good as Eli doesn't need to say a word...his play says it all).

I love the swagger, I love Eli's personality, mentality and his absolute edge.

I can't and won't hold a Tiger back, so please, Eli, do your thang...but please don't get kicked out of a game...I think we're geauxing to need you.

Dunham High's Derek Stingley Sr called him "the real deal," oooing and awwing at this kid's talents...and yet, this is the father of LSU's next great corner Derek Stingley Jr... still, he's as Pavlovian about Eli Ricks' football skills as all of us are....

Derek Sr is a father of a player, sure, but he's also a fan, too.

That's how impressive Eli Ricks is....he's a must see TV & DBU fantasy.

The corner spots will be mightily fought over, but expect Ricks to battle tooth and nail for the job on Raymond's backline.

PROJECTIONS: For me, he has a great chance to win the starting job; if Flott wins out, he at least takes the second spot behind #25, and there's packages in which both Flott and Ricks could be on the field. Next to Stingley, we believe Ricks is our most talented and reliable corner, not only due to familiarity on the left side, but his awesome, willing tackling ability...and that's above Flott (we see him more as a nickel, but we'll see when the season begins).

Ricks is just too special, he's inherently competitive and viciously dominant in the air...despite being a freshman, Ricks has the tools to deliver an echo of what Stingley accomplished during 2019 if given the opportunity to start on the left.

Either way, the battle between Eli, Cor'Dale, Dwight McGlothern, Jay Ward, Lloyd Cole and Raydarious Jones for the opposite corner slot will be as entertaining as the competition for free safety or defensive tackle. Eli and Cor'Dale will prove to be the duo who'll see the most time at left corner, we feel, however if given the opportunities to fly high, either Eli or Cor'Dale could seize this.

Is the freshman ready to overtake Cor'Dale, the seasoned Bama-defecting sophomore National Champion?

Or will both play equally?

We'll see! 4 INT, 16 PD, 43 TACKLES, 1 INT RET FOR TD

(regular season only, when we hit the post-season he'll create another turnover when the lights shine brightest)
