One of the most beloved offensive linemen in LSU history...
....a man who transformed into one of the true few icons of LSU sports media....
....among the more entertaining, insightful, inspiring, talented, and straight up hilarious forces of the LSU beat....
....friend and guest of the LSUOdyssey show, Mr. T-Bob Hebert will be taking his talents to the national stage in Chicago with Barstool Sports.

Although I am crushed to see him depart, Barstool really is a perfect fit for Hebert, but so was LSU sports coverage on Off The Bench (aka OTB) next to Co-Host and LSU legend Jacob Hester, or the infamous, nearly criminal postgame orgy that was Whisky & Wine, alongside Matt Moscona....

.....these were the LSU-based stages where T-Bob's groundbreaking fusion of LSU alumnihood, detail-obsessed fandom of anything from geek filmcore, classic literature, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings or crying about scenes in an obscure 2005 holiday comedy (The Family Stone, a family favorite) all collided in a comedic jester's square.....where sports, art, life, death, and most of all, humanity, dictated the threads of OTB's every day tapestry.....

Thanks to the programming autonomy from Guaranty media owner Gordy Rush and program director Matt Moscona, T-Bob played by no one's rules but his own, reinventing the wheel, pushing the envelope, becoming so tyrannically great at his job that we expected something special every time we turned on OTB orWhisky & Wine....and we almost always got the goods.....usually listening as I drove to work and then continuing to listen / watch as we wrote our own articles, promoted our own content, and grew more passionate by the day.

The first time I watched OTB was during the 2019 season, eager to hear LSU-centric media on YouTube, searching for podcasts for the first time, I'm very happy this show first came up:

It was a show with T-Bob screaming about "kicking Alabama's ass" as Jordy Culotta laughed through a bashful grimace; The vicious, Old Testament brutality of his vocal cords shredding endeared me....it captured my wandering attention span....

From then on, intrigued by the character, hilarity, knowledge, and the consistency of this wild-haired, bare-chested, cra....wait wait wait, or, we can just simply describe him as the lovechild of Kenny Powers & Theo Vonn, born on the floor of a cigarette-encrusted Disneyland bathroom....in another galaxy long long ago....

From that day on, like so many of you reading this, T-Bob became part of our daily diet, gleaming pixie dust off of his LSU thoughts, comedic wisdom on life, at times infuriatingly vulnerable takes (such as his undying love for Dashboard Confessional), ability to make those of us who grew up in the late 90s / early 2000s feel what he was saying in 3-D, all while talking about our Tigers from that perfect space between "been there, done that" former player, and bespeckled, wonder-doped fan.

For those first few years grinding on LSUOdyssey, I thought it would be just about the coolest thing ever to appear as a guest on their show, have our reports lead the news cycle....I wanted to become part of the action in any way, shape, or form....regardless of the distance from Utah to Louisiana.

Our stories crossed paths first in 2019 where, after the record-setting beatdown of Oklahoma, T-Bob read, liked and shared our article on the game, which you can, too, right here.....with his post endorsing our bizarre writing style below....

We never appeared on OTB as a guest, but as for the rest of it???

Somehow, some way, that all happened.....one of the most respected and listened to sports voices in America reading your work straight from the page after critical wins and catastrophic losses, breaking news, next level stats, usually as I drove into work nearly a thousand miles away.

I was desperate to be a part of it, and though armed with media credentials, our 9-5 & a first baby kept us away for most things, often feeling on the outside looking in, wondering if I was wasting my life or in the wrong business, thinking maybe I just was not good enough.....and then you'd hear T-Bob say something like that about your own work on air....

....Pure adrenaline magic...greatness forming an addictive habit....like an assist from Lionel Messi to a youth academy scrub, I felt gifted to even be thought of....pushing forth into the fire, courage born of heart's desire....

How did the much-maligned, independently run guy from Utah get this kind of love from a Louisiana native son? A former Tiger? A respected voice?

Because of these moments of respect, in a world where what I do was initially treated as a foreign outside element, those times where T-Bob included us made us feel like anything was possible.

....I can't help but think a lot of that has to do with T-Bob showing us kindness I still can't comprehend...kindness you don't always receive in one of the most competitive businesses I've ever encountered...

T-Bob, you've always been as cool behind the scenes as you are in public, you're a rare gem that will never lose its luster, and I thank you for not only giving us the fuel to fight for a life working in this industry, or giving us so much love, you showed us that sports fans will listen to discussions on music, film, TV, sex, you showed me, a sports media man with varying interests, that it can all be part of the package.....that it all has a place...and this was delivered while you gave us a daily, behind the scenes dreamquest into the mind of an LSU Tiger.

It was always appreciated to the utmost degree....it was pivotal to what we're doing, and I thank you for always giving us the time of day & being true to yourself as an artist.

Yes I used that word...artist.....because what we do is the new art, and the way T-Bob challenged, as well as comforted his audience, is the new art.

T-Bob means so much to so many, and I think many took his presence, consistency, and on-air prowess for granted....until one of the top talents to ever cover LSU sports is all of a sudden leaving the beat and the entire state of Louisiana.....then, it hit home for so many.....scanning all the personal stories and tributes across the world, it's evident T-Bob hasn't just left a mark, he's left a legacy....

.....a standard that will be damn near impossible to reach, and definitely a combination of cavernous rabbit hole knowledge, outrageously unhinged humor, and a generalized compassion that is for sure unattainable in both delivery and framework....there will never be another T-Bob covering LSU....

If you ever want to know who resides on my media figure Mt Rushmore, T-Bob Hebert no doubt takes up one of those positions.

Fare thee well, Fare thee well...

In a bed, in a bed

By the waterside I will lay my head

Listen to the river sing sweet songs

To rock my soul
