For the second consecutive offseason, a former Buckeye cornerback is headed to the real DBU...and, in yet another transfer portal cycle, CBs Coach Robert Steeples has once again secured an additional player from DeSmet, his former high school job.

Following former teammate Sevyn Banks' move to Baton Rouge, 2022 redshirt freshman cornerback JK Johnson just made his arrival official, joining Syracuse CB Duce Chestnutt as two DBU signings on Sunday.

Appearing in 13 games for Ohio State, Johnson wrapped up 20 tackles, allowed 12 catches from 20 overall targets, gave up 3 direct touchdowns, and appeared in a whopping 406 total snaps.

From the St. Louis area, JK Johnson already has an established relationship with former DeSmet Head Coach Robert Steeples and DL Mekhi Wingo, a member of the state title-winning team under Steeples, who went on to win National Head Coach of the Year honors before his ascension to the NFL and LSU.

With LSU's secondary in dire need of assistance, Steeples' capture of Johnson is great news. Not only are DBU grabbing a player who possesses the talent or experience to start for LSU upon arrival, but signing the services of a young man who's chemistry and camaraderie within the locker room are already assured.
