Among the sure-fire elite prospects of the 2026 cycle, U-High's Lamar Brown remains the #1 target for the Tigers' crucial recruiting class.
Sporting the athleticism, moves, hands, and pure strength of a trench dominator, the versatile Brown (who plays offensive line for U-High, as well) is slated to play along the defensive line at the collegiate level.....but will he stay home & play for LSU???
Right now, on the eve of his 12:15 PM central commitment time tomorrow, live on ESPN2 (that's a small clue as to the type of talent we're talking about here), LSU & Texas A&M continue to battle it out as the primary contenders.
A&M is likely to check the prime monetary boxes, although their recent defenses are stout under Mike Elko, featuring a few stud defensive linemen; Still, this is a program that has never appeared in an SEC Championship Game, never played in a College Football Playoff game.....hell, during the BCS era, the biggest bowl game they could get in was the Cotton Bowl....

For someone like Lamar, who posted about wanting to play for a college that'll help him get a Hall of Fame "gold jacket", I'd be stunned if that ideal school turned out to be A&M.
Of course, former LSU recruiting assistant Mason Smith is doing everything to show Lamar just how much A&M values his presence, even before playing a single snap.
“Every time I go there, it feels like another home,” Brown told Rivals.com. “Coach Tony and Coach Spence, I have a good relationship with them & with Mike Elko. I feel great about my fit there. They broke down everything that will help me as an Aggie and also with football....I’m also getting closer with the players.”
Let's also not forget these facts: A&M recruited Brown harder and earlier than LSU, they discovered his future fit would be at defensive line before LSU, Brown visited College Station 7 different times, and there is a recency bias when it comes to the strength of A&M's defenses.
As for LSU, they still hold all the keys to make this happen....factors A&M don't have quite yet.
First of all, LSU's NIL offer will likely come close to A&M's anyway, making Brown among, if not the most expensive commitment of LSU's NIL era.

Secondly, as far as branding for the next level, LSU destroys A&M every day of the week, with things money can't buy, no matter how much you throw at it: Only Alabama has more championships this century than LSU, the chills down the back at night games in Death Valley, the high profile branding of Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers (among others) is the blueprint for the kind of career and public profile Brown is looking for....and only LSU can give him that.
If Brown is looking to create a legacy, LSU is the place.
If Lamar is hoping to become the highest paid trenchman in history, then maybe A&M would suit him better.
But let's not mince words here:
Lamar can have the best of both worlds in Baton Rouge....all without having to move himself or his family anywhere.
Here is Lamar on the Tigers:
“Being a kid from the 225, it’s a blessing to have a chance to put on for the city and for the state,” Brown told Rivals. “After sitting down with the branding team and with the coaching staff, the big picture of how life is after football — I’m pretty sure everyone in the country would know that this place can set me up for life … I’ve seen everything and what I needed to see, honestly..."
PREDICTION
Based on our information, sources, and gathered intel from all recruiting experts, I feel Lamar will make the smart decision and choose HOME....LSU.
One major question that could take this away from the Tigers.....does Lamar have concerns about how LSU's Blake Baker will go about developing him into a defensive lineman??
And, is Lamar attracted to the couple of recently successful defensive linemen at College Station, while also wondering about Kyle Williams coaching LSU's unit for his first college gig...
Is Lamar looking at LSU's development plan with hesitation???
If so, Brown is likely going to College Station.
If he's pleased with LSU's plan for his transition to the other side of the line, then I'd be shocked if he still went to A&M.
If the money hits that line....not as much as A&M's offer, but not disrespectful cheap skating...
If Austin Thomas delivers on the financial part of the equation, Frank Wilson embeds himself with the Brown family, and Blake Baker shows a clear plan to send Lamar into the NFL Draft as a 1st rounder, then there's really no other choice here.
LSU was also the last visit Brown took in June before shutting it down.
This is a complete toss-up, with tonight and tomorrow morning playing a crucial part, too.....chances are the last school to pitch Lamar is the school he's headed to....
With that, I'm predicting the Tigers do what it takes to get Brown over the line....but only just.
