Over the past week, as LSUOdyssey covered on a recent live show, LSU hired special teams assistant Aman Anand, a former Grambling & Baylor special teams coordinator, with stops at Penn State, Utah State, Arizona, and Texas Southern, achieving solid levels of success & improvement in special teams play at each school, notably leading Penn State to a #1 ranking for blocked kicks, top 25 FCS special teams rankings at Texas Southern, and strong coaching throughout at Baylor, consistently near the top of the Big 12's special teams rankings.
And now, last night, news is finally revealed that Lance Guidry will be joining the staff as a defensive analyst.

The former Miami, Marshall, McNeese, and Western Kentucky defensive coordinator is also a Welsh, Louisiana native & McNeese graduate, coaching defense & DBs at both Leesville High & Carencro during the 90s.
While his hire wasn't met with a ton of enthusiasm from LSU fans, which came as a surprise to me, this is mostly due to his poor recent defenses at Miami. But as a defensive analyst, he is able to specialize his coaching & skills, which will help LSU immeasurably.
Hiring coaches who were thought to be "washed up" in less demanding roles was a proven championship hiring strategy of Nick Saban....and now Brian Kelly is loading up LSU's staff with the right pieces.
Former McNeese safety Lance Guidry will help Safeties Coach Jake Olsen with LSU's safety position, and the move should pay massive behind the scenes dividends. Guidry coached the safety position for 7 different teams.
LSU clearly need all the help they can get at the safety spot, not only in personnel (adding #2 ranked portal safety Tamarcus Cooley), but in the coaching & development departments, and Guidry's hire does just that.
Over the past 2 seasons, LSU safeties gave up 12 passing touchdowns, 2,404 passing yards, 169 catches, and missed 76 tackling attempts (not to mention the amount of missed gap assignments against running quarterbacks).
Now LSUOdyssey is hearing Florida State assistant Alex Atkins is now the main target for LSU's vacant TEs/ running game coordinator role....a big move indeed that's coming up.
