With the College Football Playoff committee pulling off a controversial shocker due to its top 4 inclusion of Alabama over undefeated Florida State, Tigers fans were wondering who and where they'd be bowling, and whether the long rumored reunion between Brian Kelly and Notre Dame would occur.
Other rumored opponents: sports media personality Brett McMurphy posited on Saturday night that LSU would be facing NC State, an assertion that didn't sit well with any LSU fan.....but then, on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers received the news:
The long rumored location of Tampa Bay, Florida was confirmed, but the opponent would be out of the Big 10: LSU will face Wisconsin in the Reliaquest Bowl, taking place on New Year's Day.....enduring an 11am eastern kickoff time.
As we know from his post-A&M proclamations, Biletnikoff-favorite WR Malik Nabers will start, looking to gain just 23 more yards to snap Josh Reed's all time LSU career receiving mark, which would send Malik's final overall numbers over the 3,000 yard mark in only 3 seasons. Nabers leads the nation in receiving by over 100 yards (1,546) and is 2nd to teammate Brian Thomas Jr regarding touchdown catches (14).
We still don't have confirmation on whether Heisman-favorite QB Jayden Daniels will take the reigns of the offense for one final time, or if the Wisconsin matchup will be a fall 2024 preview featuring Garrett Nussmeier at the helm.
Could this also be WR Brian Thomas Jr's final game wearing purple & gold, as the nation's leading receiver is now ascending up most mock drafts, even placing as high as the late 1st round???
We'll also witness a large array of young Tigers receiving opportunities, perhaps chances they should've received earlier in 2023.
LSU Odyssey will preview this game from all angles as we build up to New Year's Day.
Let's hope it turns out differently than the last time LSU played Wisconsin....
