Today, LSU announced the arrival of safety Jardin Gilbert, the first major transfer portal pull of the off-season for Brian Kelly's Tigers, and a much-needed one at that.

Gilbert, a former University Lab standout and Baton Rouge native, should've been a Tiger from the beginning; but due to Coach Ed Orgeron's staff failures, specifically that of Corey Raymond, LSU allowed the hometown DB boss walk out of the state....and to division rivals Texas A&M.

Gilbert started his last 14 games of 21 overall outings for A&M, 6 as a freshman, 13 as a sophomore (710 snaps), before only 2 appearances this past fall following a season-ending shoulder injury. Producing 80 tackles, 6 PBUs, 2 INTs, 2 TFLs, 0.5 sack, allowing 2 TD catches from 28 total targets.

Unless young studs such as Ryan Yaites or Kylin Jackson take over, look for Jardin to be a likely starter for LSU's upcoming season, showcasing both experience and elite playmaking pedigree at the SEC level.

This is definitely going to help us. I believe there is still growth potential in this young man.
