@LonnPhillips

As a nurse and football Mom, Denean Whitehead knows what it's like to be on the front lines.

And if you ever need to find her, chances are mandatory she can be found every Friday night in the bleachers at Roger Bacon High school watching her son, 2021 LSU commit Corey Kiner, set records, become a high school football sensation and one of the most promising running backs we've seen in a while...he's definitely the most productive.

Dropping a ridiculous 2,298 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns last year, Corey hasn't let an abbreviated schedule slow down his output whatsoever, turning Ohio football on their heads for 27 total touchdowns already through 7 games:

25 on the ground, 1 through the air and another from a silly kickoff return, averaging 14.9 per carry, 224.9 all purpose yards per game and 1,341 rushing yards.

Kiner is approaching the top 10 in almost every rushing category in Ohio High school football history as well as now totaling 128 career touchdowns at Roger Bacon, a mammoth number he'll be eager to back up at the collegiate level.

Son of Denean Whitehead and Clif Kiner, Corey has made Denean a proud Mom, but don't let her maternal nature fool you:

When the ball is kicked off, she's more into the game than most of the fathers in attendance:

LONN: How do you feel watching your son Corey dragging five guys for 10 yards or jumping over tacklers, scoring 8 touchdowns a game?? He's doing special stuff.

DENEAN: Often I'm in the stands yelling, hey kids get off my little baby. Then I'm snapped to my senses when I hear the parents of the children on the opposing team yelling back "why did you run my son over???"

LONN: (laughs) Corey is a man amongst boys up in Ohio right now!

How did Corey feel meeting LSU's Kevin Faulk?

DENEAN: Yes, Corey was super excited to meet Coach Faulk.

LONN: How is his relationship with him? What sold Corey on coming down south??

DENEAN: Well with the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic our family was limited to just virtual visits and phone calls. We felt between that virtual tour and the presentation that the coaching team and academic  team gave, that both would work together to develop Corey into the best man and player he can be.

LONN: Was there anything specific which stood out? Sorry if you have a thought just run with it I feel bad I'm such a quick typer quick trigger finger sorry Denean!

DENEAN: Well for myself one question that I've asked all the schools was how do you guys help a kid like Corey transition from high school senior to a college freshman. Coach Faulk touched my mothering heart with his answers, saying that they work very hard as a team, making the young men entrusted to them into the best most responsible and respectful men they can be. LONN: Were people shocked by your son's decision?

DENEAN: Yes, we were so nervous all the night before the announcement and then that morning Corey and I could hardly contain ourselves.  If you haven't heard you should know that Corey cares alot for others and he wants everyone to be happy and he knew some folks wouldn't be happy with his choice.

Yes to answer your question Corey shocked everyone with his choice. I don't think people thought he would go that far away from home.

LONN: Now...HES SHOCKING THE WORLD. But we knew he was this good last year too, he had 40 touchdowns!!! LSU were always talking about it thru the media, their social media etc

DENEAN: Its just so amazing that LSU found Corey. Many people said he would never be noticed at a small school like Roger Bacon...

Wrong....

PT.II COMING SOON!

THANK YOU TO DENEAN WHITEHEAD FOR HER HEROISM DURING THIS PANDEMIC, THANK DENEAN TODAY AND EVERYDAY, EVERYONE!
