Compiling 27 tackles, 1 INT returned for a TD, 2 TFLs and a sack during an All-SEC Freshman debut at Missouri, without question LSU's DL transfer Mekhi Wingo is one of the more anticipated defensive linemen on roster following his move to Baton Rouge.

LSU's young (yet experienced) mastermind is about to embark upon an adventurous sophomore campaign, vying for snaps alongside one of the deepest defensive fronts in the SEC, all while sharpening his own elite skill set in the process.

Following a weekend of practices, observing Mekhi and his teammates open Spring football for the Tigers in disciplined fashion, we discussed Wingo's own personal expectations for 2022, his adjustment to Louisiana life, first impressions with teammates and more......

LONN: How are you doing, Mekhi??

MEKHI: Been doing good, enjoying my time down here.

LONN: I was curious after watching practices, they were moving you around up front, are you more of a DT or DE?

MEKHI: Honestly I can play all along the d line …whatever position can help the team I fine with.

LONN: As someone who can play anywhere on the DL, what is your favorite thing to do along the line of scrimmage?

MEKHI: I can rush the passer that is where I will make my money.

LONN: Where do you feel you'll make the most impact?

MEKHI: Every day, I’m getting stronger and more technically sound in the run game.

LONN: Where do you like to rush from the most, the interior or off the edge???

MEKHI: I like rushing from the interior, mainly.

LONN: How are you feeling with your new DL teammates? Do you feel good about playing next to BJ, Ali, J-Roy, Maason, Quency, Big Tank etc?

MEKHI: Absolutely! Being around guys like them just push me and make me work that much harder. Feel good to play next to some guys on that level.

LONN: They are excited about you, too!! What other schools were really pursuing you when you were in the portal?!

MEKHI: Oklahoma, USC (California), Arkansas, North Carolina were the main ones.

LONN: How big of a role did your former De Smet Head Coach Robert Steeples play in your transfer to LSU?

MEKHI: Love Coach Steeps, it’s good to have family around…LSU honestly sells itself to Any recruit and him being here was just the icing on the cake.

LONN: Mekhi, what's the progress you're seeing from this team so far after a few practices and a month of conditioning training?

MEKHI: The team is just getting closer and starting to learn how others play and things like that.

LONN: Arriving at LSU as an All-SEC Freshman from last year, you are entering 2022 with some high expectations from all the fans, critics etc, but what do YOU expect from yourself this year? What would equal progress for you???

MEKHI: I expect to contribute to the team and play at an even higher level that I did last year…I just wanna be a model teammate on and off the field.

LONN: You're already off to a strong start!! Have you felt the love from the fanbase since you've moved down here?!

MEKHI: Absolutely, the town is very welcoming!!!
