On Wednesday April 26th 2023, high school football recruiting history will show that a local 4 star tight end out of East Feliciana committed to Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers...but there is so much more to the story than Kelly and Co merely collecting another commitment from a highly prized local prospect:
Standing an outrageous 6'5, pushing 230 pounds, all as he rolls down field with surreal pace, power, and one patented move after another, even if he accomplishes only half of what is expected of him, 2024 LSU commit Trey'dez Green may just be the most gifted & promising tight end prospect to ever come out of the state of Louisiana.
Last season, Green put on a clinic, hauling in 42 catches for 864 yards and 14 touchdowns, 4 of those 14 scores arriving in Week 1.
Green was coveted by every top school in America, but staying home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to represent his LSU Tigers is a dream come true for Trey'dez.
But he was only committing if the fit & culture were there....but over time, just as certain as LSU has been about him, he's been certain about LSU.
The Tigers now have the best tight end room of the 2024 class, earning commitments from both Trey'dez and #1 overall athlete out of Ohio, Tayvion Galloway;
Simultaneously, that year's tight ends room overall will surely challenge to be America's best, led by a veteran junior Mason Taylor with yet another year of experience under his belt, 2023 signees Jackson McGohan, Mac Markway and Ka'Morreun "Kingpin" Pimpton, plus 2 more of the top 5 best tight ends in the country joining the program.
All of these developments begs the question: is LSU becoming TIGHT END UNIVERSITY???
Not merely because they're signing a plethora of tight ends or because of Mike Denbrock's predilection to use multiple tight ends in one play after another, LSU is beginning to steal Georgia's recently claimed "TEU" status by signing the best tight ends in each class, developing them early and often, then basing the structure of their entire offense around the tight end's every move.
In 2022, we witnessed freshman TE Mason Taylor catch both the game tying touchdown and game winning two point conversion vs Alabama, playing in a ridiculous number of snaps for any player in any season...let alone a true freshman;
Additionally, due to the significance of the tight end spot within their offense, Head Coach Brian Kelly and Offensive Coordinator Mike Denbrock trusted Mason Taylor with the success or failure of their tight end-based philosophy.
On most snaps, he was their only option at tight end...there were no substitutions for the freshman.
Every top tight end in America watched Mason Taylor's incredible 2022 with awe and wonder: not only did Kelly and Denbrock trust their youth, they were fearless with their guys...they went all in.
With new 2023 target Ka'Morreun Pimpton's 1 v 1 dominance eliciting positive reactions out of offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock....even before his on campus arrival this June, as well as the pedigree of Markway, McGohan, Galloway and now our own local hero Trey'dez Green, all within this same group, one would think these next few years could bring about the Age of TEU in a way none of us could've imagined or anticipated before: a successful offense at WRU where tight ends are primary targets.

Never in my memory of LSU history have I seen this much quality depth. We have had many great tight ends, but the TE room has never had this breath of talent. CBK and staff continue to work their magic.
These Elite TE’s will make us so much more versatile
