West Weeks, the eldest of 3 Weeks Tigers, clad in #33, enters his 5th collegiate season (4th as a Tiger) at the right moment:

Coming off a Spring where he clocked a large amount of starting reps due to younger brother Whit's injury absence, West is seizing this chance & putting in the work to make his final year at LSU a fitting culmination after multiple injury-limited campaigns.

West is receiving plenty of opportunities from defensive coordinator / LBs Coach Blake Baker, with the former Mizzou DC envisioning a key role for Weeks, potentially as a starter alongside younger brother Whit. Baker even mentioned West was "competing against Greg Penn" for a starting role last fall before his ankle injury.

Despite the most attention from fans, media members, and even his coaching staff being sent Whit's direction, following strong freshman & blistering All-SEC sophomore performances where Whit became the team's undisputed best linebacker, older brother West could be seen beaming with pride & joy on the sidelines throughout his injury-marred 2024 season, supporting his younger brother & leading the family's rise.

Although West is blessed with a selfless mentality, he wanted to be out there making his own plays, too, but his ankle issues continued to keep him out of games, to the point that Head Coach Brian Kelly came up with a brilliant idea:
Would West redshirt 2024, leaving him eligible to play 2 more regular season games, plus participate fully during possible postseason play?

The answer was a no brainer:

In a story broken by LSUOdyssey, not only would West get one more opportunity to win a championship at LSU, drive up his own NFL Draft stock, and of course play alongside his brother in the same position, there was yet another Weeks brother about to arrive on campus (freshman LB Zach), making 2025 a once in a lifetime season...

West accepted the red shirt, played two more regular season games, then turned in a powerful outing during the Texas Bowl vs Baylor, tying a team-high of 7 tackles.

Weeks was all over the field, showcasing grit & tackling discipline....qualities the Tigers' 2024 defense sorely needed all year.

For 2025, Weeks will likely be in direct competition for a starting spot vs sophomore star Davhon Keys.

Thrown into action for a large stretch of the season due to Harold Perkins & West's injuries, the uber-athletic linebacker performed admirably, stuffing the stat sheet & demonstrating his versatility.

West will have his work cut out for him against the brilliant playmaking of Keys, although I will assert a different way of thinking here:

West's more rugged, disciplined, traditional linebacker ethos may provide the perfect balance to compliment the speed & playmaking from younger brother Whit at WLL linebacker, Perkins at star, all backing edge rushers Patrick Payton, Gabe Reliford, Jack Pyburn, or Jimari Butler.

I could see Baker using a simple framework where he utilizes Keys in passing packages & deploys West against the run more, putting both in situations where they can most help the team.

Still, West will have it all to prove heading into Fall Camp.

Can he stay healthy for the entire campaign ahead???
With Whit Weeks' return to the field for fall practices, will Davhon Keys continue starting alongside Whit???
Or, did West showcase enough quality throughout Spring camp for a full Weeks Brothers takeover???

Either way, Coach Baker has strong options to call upon, however.....when watching back on the film, West elevated Whit's performances, and in turn, Whit pushed West to greater on field heights.

Will we witness the season of dreams for the Weeks Brothers, with West delivering his best year as his last??? Both older brothers starting alongside one another, while youngest brother Zach is a member of the same position group???

The telepathy of brothers may just turn out to be a key factor that will not only decide linebacker playing time, but also tip the scales in colossal defensive moments against top opponents during the season ahead.
