HOLD THAT TIGER!!!!!
2022 LB Demario Tolan becomes the Tigers' first linebacker commit of the 2022 class, while newly minted LBs Coach Blake Baker also picked up a dynamic first victory on the recruiting trail....
Of course, the race for Tolan just had to include Baker jousting against former employers Miami to earn a major "weight off the shoulders" win on the trail.... and in Demario Tolan, the former Hurricanes defensive coordinator has found the perfect way to start out his 2022 linebacker unit.
Cruising and bruising many opponents last year for 89 total tackles, Tolan proved his brilliant finishing abilities by way of completing 80 solo stops!!!
A truly elite statistic from the unsung linebacker, who also adds 4 sacks, 2 TFL, 4 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery, 2 forced fumbles, and 7 QB hurries to his last season's tally at Dr Phillips...a campaign which saw him grow as a major key for the Florida high school's success.
A durable, physical, competitive, vicious linebacker (plays receiver and running back, too), Tolan has extremely good feet, maybe the best of his class at his position, able to sift through traffic and pounce on rushers or quarterbacks with violence; his shuffling feet also help him match tight ends or slot receivers nearly stride for stride; Tolan also carries strong anticipatory instincts, propelling his coverage game, helping him jump routes, and leading to many tackles in or around the backfield.
2 tackles for loss doesn't seem correct when you watch his game film...but that's the officially listed statistic....however, it seems like 8 or 9.5 at the least.
Now, in the wake of Tolan's commitment, could dominoes start to fall concerning LSU's other linebacker targets of the class???
5 star Harold Perkins would be the crown jewel, Virginia-native Shawn Murphy's elite versatility is in much-demand at LSU, Ohio's Mani Powell could be about to explode, while Gulliver Prep's Travious Lathan or Texas native Justin Medlock also remain high on Baker's list.
2022 has some scandalously good linebackers in this class....those names are the tip of the iceberg, and it appears LSU are in the running for about every single one of them, if not in the lead.
Now that Blake Baker's grabbed a huge confidence-boosting win on the trail, there's no stopping him from locking in and grabbing one of Perkins or Murphy to go alongside Tolan....though, I expect LSU to sign 3 linebackers in this 2022 class.
Well, the 2022 LB room just started off with a bang...one who's impact will have reverberations echo across the upcoming months.
