LSUOdyssey sources confirmed the Tigers' defensive coordinator Blake Baker will make significant changes to his lineup for the second straight week in a row, starting with colossal news regarding a major position shift for one of LSU's best players & a much-demanded 2024 starting debut....also, there will be some potential injury absences for the game vs South Carolina ahead:
First, Coach Baker is set to move prior inside linebacker Harold Perkins to the star position, replacing the struggling Major Burns, a change LSUOdyssey was personally hoping for since July.
Next, locker room & fanbase favorite Whit Weeks, the sophomore steambreathing linebacker, will start for the first time this season (last start vs Mizzou, 2023) alongside Greg Penn III.
Sage Ryan will continue to play at his more familiar position of free safety, while Dashawn Spears and Jardin Gilbert are locked in a battle for the strong safety slot.
It does appear Zy Alexander is likely to start opposite Ashton Stamps, though I could see Alexander still being worked in from the bench for one more game.
INJURY NEWS
-During today's SEC Head Coaches Teleconference, Head Coach Brian Kelly told LSUOdyssey WR Chris Hilton Jr's questionable status hasn't changed ahead of South Carolina....throwing his availability once again up in the air.
However, this season, whenever Kelly said a player would be "questionable", they weren't on the field for the next game.
-Junior linebacker West Weeks hurt his lower leg during the 3rd quarter of the Nicholls State contest and will not feature this Saturday. The former Virginia transfer looks set for a return vs UCLA.
LSUOdyssey will not provide more injury specifics on West.
-Starting safety Jordan Allen went down in the 2nd half vs Nicholls State and is yet to practice this week, usually an indicator he may be held back for this game, or may take part in minimal snaps.
We'll see how his condition continues.
LSUOdyssey will choose not to reveal the nature of his injury.
