Losing 32 players to the portal while signing 21 transfers (over a week's time) in their own right, Kiffin's LSU continue to add some stronger players to their roster, even as questions begin to swirl regarding the self described "Portal King"'s ability to reel in top echelon talent, all while the shocking situation at quarterback has left LSU in a desperate situation at football's most critical position.
The Tigers lost out on big time target Chaz Coleman, the defensive end announcing to sources on Friday night that he was headed for Tennessee of all places...
....however, the Tigers did sign a player in an almost identical situation as Coleman (and may possess a higher ceiling), South Carolina's now former DE Jaylen Brown, a prior pupil of current LSU DL Coach Sterling Lucas, while simultaneously pissing off Tennessee by signing two new additions from their roster, OL William Satterwhite and edge rusher Jordan Ross.
These three latest additions are some of the more impressive signings of the portal window thus far....
LSU continue to pile up the numbers at receiver, bringing in three newer receiving additions, as well, over the past 24-48 hours, from local St Augustine High / McNeese WR Josh Jackson (no stats after a red shirt year at McNeese), Illinois' Malik Elzy (213 yards, 16 catches & 2 TDs over 3 seasons & 23 games), and West Florida's Tyree Holloway (661 yards, 34 catches, and 8 TDs).
Instead of pursuing high dollar, ultimate name receivers via the portal, such as Cam Coleman, Kiffin went the opposite route, going after smaller school targets holding (possibly) higher value at the end of the day; Kiffin is aiming for players possessing the exact skill set for his offensive structure, however, there remains a few Ole Miss receivers on Kiffin, Glasscock and Weis Jr's list....(I'll get into that in a later article).
Concerning the offensive line, there was a really good signing in former Tennessee Volunteer OL William Satterwhite, the third offensive line signing after senior Ja'Quan Sprinkle and Many, Louisiana-native offensive tackle JaKolby Jones.

A versatile, hard-nosed veteran presence, Sprinkle has 27 starts under his belt, utilized at both tackle and guard over his time at North Carolina Central.
JaKolby Jones is a former Many High state champion and Copiah-Lincoln starter, playing in 19 productive appearances, featuring a 1,000 yard rusher on offense and a beastly offensive blocking scheme, clocking on average just under 250 yards on the ground per game.
Although William Satterwhite is the only offensive line signing whose CV indicates SEC experience, it is still slim...only 12 games & 181 total snaps over his true & redshirt freshman campaigns, providing depth at center (finally) and an aggressive presence at one of the two guard spots....but will he become a key piece of LSU's 2026 offensive line??? Or is he a project for the future???
However, the most important position on roster, and one Kiffin has definitely fumbled is quarterback....
After his mess of things on Tuesday, LSU is in a precarious situation regarding the quarterback position.
When #1 overall rated QB Sam Leavitt was on campus and, despite some awkward vibes, remained willing to make this work and finalize things with GM Billy Glasscock the next day. But instead, Kiffin was contacted by De'mond Williams' agent, and he went pursuing the dual threat colossus from Washington's lawyer-saucy hands....which infuriated Leavitt and his family, and they took off for the next visit on the list...

Once LSU found out they'd have to pay Washington $4 million before being able to sign Williams for another $5 million (per a sneaky clause inserted in Williams' Washington contract), LSU dropped out of the running for Williams and moved back to Leavitt...hoping Kiffin could patch things up...
Now, like the rain-soaked ending of some mid 90s rom-com, Kiffin went after Leavitt just last night, flying to Knoxville to meet up with Sam and his parents, hoping to sign him on as the pinnacle class quarterback, the man to lead the locker room at LSU football for the next season or more....
.....but none of it, whether Leavitt ultimately signs for LSU or doesn't, feels right....
....none of this, the turbulent online insanity that has happened, the juggling between quarterbacks, even more villain tags sent Kiffin's way....none of it is good for the establishment of anything present or long term...
....Kiffin must find a way to make it happen with Leavitt, but even if you sign Sam, the former Arizona State quarterback just experienced a nasty LisFranc injury to his ankle, and one that is so significant it has numerous programs debating whether they should pursue Leavitt or not.
He will also miss Spring and potentially part or all of the summer....another key factor for why teams are hesitant.
Leavitt, his family, and his agent all know that....at some point, he may have to accept the best available, too....but that is the last thing you wanted or needed for your quarterback spot at LSU, another jaded guy handed the starting spot, losing all trust in his Head Coach upon contact, and all ability backsliding down the drain....
