It's completely down to bad luck when you realize Whit Weeks' two separate 2025 injuries, one during the Texas Bowl vs Baylor on New Year's Day, and another sustained & aggravated last October, were actually the first two injuries the All-SEC linebacker ever suffered in his football career.

Now missing his second consecutive Spring camp (though he was an active non playing participant throughout), after a prolonged and noticeable absence for the second half of the 2025 campaign, Weeks is hungrier than ever, not down on himself, unsure, or feeling worried about the future....mentally, Weeks is unshakable.

Whit loves LSU and playing as a Tiger so much he turned down a likely 2nd round NFL Draft pick, according to his father David, who told LSUOdyssey his son was considered a 2nd rounder by scouts and agent connections following last season.....why would Whit Weeks turn down the NFL?

"I want another shot at Alabama, at Texas A&M, Dad," Whit told his father David, when making his decision to return.

But it also helped that LSU was able to keep in-demand defensive coordinator Blake Baker on staff, while replacing fired Head Coach Brian Kelly with none other than Lane Kiffin....not only a top tier college coach & offensive maniac, Kiffin just happens to be the father of his girlfriend, Landry.

Last season, when Kiffin led Ole Miss to a gutty win over LSU, Weeks went up against his girlfriend's father in a game that carried many storylines & hype, including the Hollywood-tinged relationship, delivering on all three and then some....

Now, in a turn of events so wild you'd only see it go down in a Friday Night Lights ripoff written by Michael Bay, Whit plays for instead of against the father of his lady, beginning the journey of his Last Dance, his senior season at LSU with an almost cinematic scope of chance, divine circumstance, and etched-in-stone destiny.

Whit Weeks is one of, if not the most complete & entertaining linebackers in the game, extremely competitive, violent in his aggressive attack, mixing an old school Rambo brutality alongside his new age athleticism & playmaking dynamism: a linebacker for all times and seasons.

Despite his unquestioned greatness, it feels like we've only seen a few layers scratched away from the Weeks onion....like there's still more levels he can reach:

Thinking about his solid, undefeated presence as a freshman in 2023 (where he was benched for the poor performing Omar Speights right as Whit and the entire LSU defense started to make it work for the Jayden Daniels juggernaut offense), or the fact Harold Perkins needed to tear his ACL before Weeks appeared in more than 25 snaps as a sophomore (subsequently cementing a starting spot and taking over captain status thereafter), and then there was consecutive lower leg injuries that marred the majority of his 2025 calendar year, robbing half of a season starting alongside his older brother, fellow starter West, while weakening what was a previously unbreakable LSU defense right when they needed him most).

The point is?

We think we know the kind of player, no, the kind of Tiger Whit Weeks is, but we don't...

...we've never witnessed a full season with Whit starting and leading an elite defense run by his coaching mentor Blake Baker.....we've only seen snippets:

The freshman wardaddy of 2023, keeping things together & enabling teammates to shine across a string of wins before Matt House simultaneously pulled the plug on Weeks, LSU's chance for contention, and his job.....

The touchdown-saving, one man tackling turbine & leader of 2024, the devastating backfield disrupting blitz machine he became during the first half of 2025 (hitting a 90.8 pass rushing grade on PFF through 8 games, most effectively seen vs Clemson & South Carolina).....

...we now need to see him become who he always was to begin with, all three versions of the same player in one complete season.....The 2026 Last Dance.

If Weeks stays healthy, now at 100% and fully recovered from offseason surgeries, rehab and precautions during Spring, this will be a top 20, maybe even top 10 defense under Blake Baker.

And if Baker's aggressive heavy metal defense can maintain their health and improve (even slightly) on their 2025 production, married alongside a rock and roll, hell bent for leather Kiffin/Weis offense possessing lengthy past success on the ground & through the air, then the 2026 Tigers will embark on a College Football Playoff adventure....with Whit Weeks' signature 80s headband, long hair, jaw from chiseled rock, and sweet molasses accent leading the charge.
