MEKHI WINGO OUT FOR 6 WEEKS / ZY ALEXANDER, DUCE CHESTNUTT & DENVER HARRIS ALL OUT FOR ALABAMA

LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly just announced that DL #18 Mekhi Wingo had surgery and will be out for "the season", before retreating on that and saying, "for 6 weeks..."

After playing through a groin injury for most of the campaign, racking up 344 snaps over 8 starts as he led LSU as their #1 overall graded defender (79.3), also ranking first in pressures created (14), the 2022 All-American is out for the season unless the Tigers can make the College Football Playoff.

Wingo himself tweeted out, "I'll be back for the playoffs, we focused."

Mekhi was likely the Tigers' best defender aside from Harold Perkins through 8 games, definitely sending his name to the top of any GM's 2024 NFL Draft board.....though LSU fans would be desperate for his 2024 senior year return, Wingo may have played his last snap as a Tiger unless Kelly's squad can force a CFP appearance.....which is still very possible.

Elsewhere, Head Coach Brian Kelly also pointed out DBs Duce Chestnutt & Denver Harris both won't play @ Alabama due to discipline reasons, plus, as expected, Zy Alexander will be out for the game.

It really is unfortunate that injuries and discipline have further limited our defense. Even with a full roster of DBs, there have been serious gaps in development and utilization. I stand staunchly behind all of our Tigers, but I expect a rocky second half.
