During Jackson Academy's 35-7 annihilation of Parklane Academy, Deion Smith sprained his foot badly as an offensive lineman trod upon the foot of LSU's 2021 commit.
Now, Smith's trainer and receiving coach Shay Hodge has told us "his season is officially over" due to the severity and timing of the severely sprained toe.
Though some were reporting a break earlier, the correct injury was a severe sprain, which is a big time win for Deion's recovery time and length of rehab.
Deion Smith will be catching passes for the first day of Spring practice, we're sure of that, such is his work ethic and the incredible, natural athleticism he possesses.
Although missing the rest of his senior year will be a major disappointment we can't deny, Deion will look to cheer on his younger brother Dan (who caught 2 TDs vs Parklane in his older brother's absence).
In fact, Shay Hodge feels Dan "isn't as needed when he plays with Deion" due to both players being so dominant and only so much of the ball to go around at the high school level. Now, LSU's Coaching / Recruiting Staff (led by Mickey Joseph, Carter Sheridan, Scott Linehan and Colin D'Angelo) can get an even deeper look at Dan Smith...not to mention in high emotion / high intensity games where he must perform at his highest level with a championship on the line.

Looking for a silver lining from this sad injury?
It may benefit both players?
Deion will come back stronger from the rehab workouts with Shay and perhaps Dan will take off on the field, potentially skyrocketing his offers.
