-LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier wore a sleeve on his knee. Ran the ball, scrambled, moved within the pocket, unloaded one dime after another to LSU's cavalcade of ridiculously talented (a 51 yard bomb to Barion Brown in stride & numerous intermediate passes to Green, Nic Anderson, among others), furiously explosive receivers, but Nuss limped on at least one occasion after a scramble.
He appeared unmoved but was evidently gritting through the pain in that knee....which is another thing that has to be addressed:
His left knee is the one that currently has a patellar tendon problem. Nussmeier's right knee is the one that was operated on back in 2023.....that is a fact.
Make of that what you will, considering Brian Kelly's mystifying announcement from earlier.
-2024's leading WR Aaron Anderson is back after missing a string of practices / full practice participation due to a minor operation on his knee, plagued by inflammation dating back to a 2022 injury. He still didn't appear on the field during 7 v 7 or 11 v 11 scrimmaging.
-New transfer arrival DE Jack Pyburn is starting to get the sacks now, not merely a run stuffer. He just sacked a QB for his third straight practice on record...touch sacks where he had the QBs dead to rights.
-Another transfer & likely starter is former Virginia Tech CB Mansoor Delane...producing a masterclass outing, definitely his best practice as a Tiger thus far.
Picking off 2 passes, attacking the backfield and line of scrimmage for strong hits & tackles, while registering at least 1 tackle for loss, it is no surprise:
Mansoor was always a starter in my mind. However, his mind-altering performances as of late suggest he could be a Thorpe Award contender.
-Red shirt freshman LB Tylen Singleton enjoyed yet another all action practice, forcing a fumble and repeatedly playing out of his skull but then got banged up. Maybe nothing.
Maybe something.
Definitely Fall Camp in Full Swing.
-Such is the twisting, turning fortunes of Fall Camp, Trey'Dez Green smoked Harold Perkins on one play before getting handled by precise coverage and combative hands from Dashawn Spears on another snap.
-The receiving corps looks tired, dropping at least 11 passes by my count, including Zavion Thomas dropping a pair, Barion Brown with 1, Nic Anderson letting one clap through his hands, Trey'Dez Green too, and Jelani Watkins dropped another, as well.
-LSU's offensive line played a lot better, headlined by center Braelin Moore who continues to quite possibly be Brad Davis' one true O-line anchor. This was a more violent showing by the O-line, refusing to be overtaken & holding the rope.
-Freshman Carius Curne lost multiple refs to DE/LB Kolaj Cobbins, who I've been guilty of overlooking. Curne also committed 3 penalties, including 2 false starts (one on 3rd down)
-QB Colin Hurley roasted some erstwhile freshman DBs who shall remain nameless in their shame, tossing 3 or 4 beautiful down field completions.
-After passing the football with more ducks than Central Park, QB Michael Van Buren threw passes fused with punctuation, timing, and clarity...he was seeing the field better than any time at LSU. Throwing multiple touchdown scores, including a short red zone pass in the flat to Bauer Sharp, plus a brilliantly designed bootleg play where Trey'Dez Green was waiting for the football completely wide open.
-PJ Woodland, Patrick Payton (batted at the line), Mansoor Delane, Dashawn Spears, and DJ Pickett all got their hands on the ball to break up a pass.
