As the fallout from LSU's defeat to Ole Miss continues to mount in a tidal wave of criticism, confounding feelings regarding the Tigers' offensive failings, Brian Kelly's coaching decisions (and even his assistant hires), fronted by a righteous fanbase wrath regarding the team's pallpable lack of preparation & progress, there is also one main concern over all:

The health and current status of senior QB Garrett Nussmeier, alongside the immediate future of LSU's quarterback position.....

Despite Head Coach Brian Kelly self-reporting Nussmeier suffered a prior pair of injuries, first a knee issue in his patellar tendon near the end of Fall Camp, before later admitting his quarterback also suffered a "torso" injury in August, Kelly told media members Nuss was "healthy" during this last Saturday's postgame press conference.

Yet.....our eyes, and LSUOdyssey sources, tell another story.

LSUOdyssey reported that Nussmeier was hurt with an "abdominal" injury right before Week 1 of the 2025 season....and while it seemed LSU was capable of winning anyway, the story was buried....slightly...

But after tepid, well below par performances over the first 5 games of the season, culminating in Nussmeier's worst full game production as a LSU quarterback against Ole Miss (197 yards, 21/34, 1 TD and yet another crushing red zone interception), questions needed to be asked...

The Heisman hopeful has looked anything but healthy, looking labored, half-committed, and in pain when throwing a football, showing more casual footwork (almost as if his body is subconsciously trying to protect his knee and core), and after 7 early season sacks over 5 games, Nuss has also been seen limping, hobbling, or dealing with pain at varying times...specifically the low hit he suffered during his final, unnecessary 2nd half opening drive with a 35-0 lead against Southeastern two weeks ago.

It was a game we wondered if he should've even participated in....seeing it as a grand opportunity to give backup Michael Van Buren a risk-free shot at the helm, while potentially giving Nussmeier a key week of healing.

Instead, Brian Kelly's LSU seem hellbent on playing Nussmeier no matter what:

On Monday morning, LSUOdyssey received word from multiple sources that Nuss was "headed for surgery" and was about to be "shut down" for the rest of the 2025 season.

When asked by this author if LSU's senior quarterback was indeed set for a shut down and rumored bye week surgery, a top LSU official told LSUOdyssey there was no truth to that information.

At the same time, LSUOdyssey reached out to 52 different sources within the LSU program or around Garrett Nussmeier, and received information leading us to feel there is something going on....

One of our sources sent a screenshot of a text from an NFL WRs scout who said LSU was indeed considering shutting Nussmeier down for the season...not only in a quest to win games or find a spark offensively, but to protect Garrett from further injury & a downward slide to his NFL Draft stock.
Officially, LSU is sticking to the script so far: Nuss is fine, don't worry, nothing to see here.....however, our eyes tell us all a different story, Nussmeier's postgame reaction to a question concerning his health was telling ("I don't want to talk about my health right now..."), and LSUOdyssey continues to receive more tips and information, some we've been able to verify, some we haven't........yet....
Is Garrett Nussmeier seriously hurt?
We are beyond that question, he is undoubtedly ailing....the meat of the issue revolves around how bad is he plagued by his knee and abdominal injuries, will they be able to heal, is this a situation where he could recover over the bye week, or is this going to be a lingering problem for the rest of the fall schedule???

Continue to follow our reporting for the answers to these questions & what comes next.

Thanks for all the work you are doing to give us as objective a picture as possible. What bothers me the most is the turmoil going on in the program. You know the team feels it if the fans do. We now have another season derailed by a “process” that mirrors a soap opera.
